Honestly I dig Jack,

BUT
1. Wasn\'t a huge fan of the last album
2. It\'s like a Dave show not that the music would be bad, but not sure I would care for the scene.

I am not the hugest fan of the new album...i really adore his old stuff....so i am hoping he breaks out with that....   do you really think it will be a dave crowd?  Ugh.  I really hope not.  I was hoping it would be laid back and minus the obnoxious drunks....

I don\'t know, I guess not the drunk Dave fan thing more just that Abercrombie and Fitch vibe.    but I could be wrong.  The only time I\'ve seen him live was at Jones Beach when he and Ben Harper co-billed, it was a great show.  He\'s alot bigger now though.  I really don\'t know what I\'m trying to say here.  I\'m sure it will be fine.

the songs are def cheesy, no question.

What do you mean you don\'t buy it though.  You think it\'s an act?

I think like dave, he writes some great little riffs. Fun stuff to play on an acoustic guitar. I could see how he\'s not for everyone but I don\'t mind the lyrics. Sadly though, I would completely agree with chris that this will most likely be the college drunk girl dmb crowd.

wait, how is this a bad thing? rotfl

jack johnson is one of those bands/singers who college girls from long island say they like so that they can be associated with, and i quote, "chill music."  im still trying to figure out exactly what this means.  Ben Harper and Dave Matthews are usually listed in the same category.  I think a lot of "jamband" folks such as us who travel to go see bands and put a lot of time/energy into seeing/rating/picking apart live musical performances often get aggrevated by this because it seems more like fans of these bands just listen to them to make it sound like they are part of "that group" (i.e. pot smoking pseudo-hippies).

that is so true. i know way too many college girls from westchester (and even see it up around uconn) that use jack johnson as a way to associate themselves with "chill heady music". they listen to shit like dispatch and oar too. it\'s very frustrating when i am forced to listen to it.

that being said, even though i don\'t really listen to either of them, i would rather see dave mathews over jack johnson any day of the week. dmb might have an incredibly annoying "bro" crowd, but i think that he is much more talented than jack johnson.

With that said...as long as the girls are hot, I\'ll just agree with everything they say about this so-called "chill music."  I usually, just for kicks, ask them if they are/were ever into phish.  Usually the response I get is something like "I LOVE phish!  That song Farmhouse is one of my FAVORITE songs!"

Or "Heavy Things", or "That cover of Gin & Juice"

...and yes, I know the Gin & Juice cover isn\'t Phish.

with all this talk of jack being associated with \'chill music\', one can\'t deny that the man used to make interesting music.  ive been a fan for years, seen him about 5 times at festivals and his own shows.  jim, for the record, there is nothing not to trust about the guy, if anything hes one of the more genuine artists in popular music today.

his first two records were great quality music. nothing mind-blowing in comparison to top musical performers today, however his sense of rhythmic, percussive guitar playing with fun, and sometimes deep lyrics mixed to make interesting music.

that being said, one can only make so much music out of the 7-10 chords he uses, and one can only write such interesting music when you live on a beach with your family and you haven\'t a care in the world.  the guy is a great guy though and i still support all the music he makes.  i personally really dislike his new album and was really let down when i heard it, however because i do know how genuine of a guy he is and how good his music used to be (he\'ll still be playing a lot of it at his shows) i\'m going to bite the bullet and enjoy seeing him at bonnaroo and all points west despite the shitty young ignorant girl crowd that will be there.

i think you all should too...for the musics sake.

love always,

OMS
