I\'d say blind, cause I wouldn\'t want to talk like a deaf person.

If you went deaf, you\'d still talk ok. Volume could be a problem at times, but you\'d still sound just as fucked up as now.

Personally, I\'d take being blind. Music is way too important to me. And...I wouldn\'t have to drive to all the shows anymore.

if you were blind, then youd constantly have to guess what you/your partner looks like by what other people say.

"yeah man, shes pretty cute"

but then it wouldn\'t matter :)

People will probably think it\'s nuts but I\'m going with deaf. My dad was legally blind and as fun as it was to watch good ol\' dad catch the end of the coffee table with his knee, I don\'t think I could deal without seeing my daughter physically grow up into a woman.

are we talking fully 100% of both, or legally blind/deaf? Legally blind you can still see a little.

If I was deaf I\'d be listening to a ton of atonal music really loud. That\'s how beethoven worked on the 9th. Cut the legs off of his piano and sat on the floor playing it, feeling the vibrations.

I think I could go crazy with no sound.  Honestly. I need music.  But its scary to the think of being blind...

Isn\'t it?

My friend Tim immediately answered "deaf. I\'m a visual artist". He is a photographer by trade and the conversation began in earnest.

I would choose to be deaf.

The ONLY reason being that they have made serious strides in artificial hearing / ears etc. I guess they can do eye transplants but I don\'t know much about that.

If there were no cures to either then it might be blind as my entire life kind of revolves around music but having to rely on other people is something I do not do well with now let alone having a handicap

Deaf people speak like someone is holding onto their tongue.  I speak like someone\'s holding onto my brain.

I didn\'t even consider occupation when I answered.  For work reasons, deaf would work better... actually, they both would suck... but I might be able to get away withdeaf.... but frankly, I\'m not that in love with working.  If I went blind, I could probably just leech off the system.

Definitely deaf. Very difficult to jump a horse over a fence if you are blind. I\'d be out of a job. Also, I need to be able to go hiking and see the great outdoors. It\'s crucial to my maintaining some (slight) level of sanity.

However I\'m pretty sure some blind chick in a Disney movie rode horses off of high platforms into water or something, so there\'s always that.

I\'d rather be deaf... no question about it. I wouldn\'t want to be dependent on a guide person/dog.  If I still had my sight, "I" could drive "myself" from place to place, view the precious smile of my girl, watch muted porn, play catch with my kids, and precious shit like that. The only thing I\'d miss is the sound of music and vocal conversations with family and friends. I could always humm Tunage to myself.

After a little thought...I changed my mind...I\'m half deaf already, so, there you go. Take my hearing. I could always get mega bass headphones and just bop to the vibrations.

I\'ve always wondered if blind people (those who are born blind) see images in their dreams.

I\'ve brewed over this debate forever. I lean towards going deaf before blind. If you\'ve lived 24 years with the ability to hear, do you gradually lose your internal radio? This shit has always boggled my mind. What is still possible in blindness and deafness? This is why I can\'t whole-heartedly come to a decision.... Anyone highly knowledgeable on these subjects\' limits?

There have been some HILARIOUS responses so far. Good full laughs from this guy.

:point: "Then I wouldn\'t have to drive to shows anymore."

The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

It must suck to be deaf and get a tune stuck in your head. I usually need to listen to something else to get it out.
