1-0! 172 to go!

Oh yeah motherfuckers! A 7-2 win against the Marlins yesterday clearly means the Mets are not only on their way to a World Series title, but are also obviously going to make Major League Baseball history by winning all 162 of their regular-season games this year.

It\'s obvious. Anyone who knows anything about baseball, who\'s ever played baseball, who\'s ever picked up a baseball, who\'s ever said the word baseball, and whose great great grandmother possibly necked with Abner Doubleday, knows the 2008 New York Mets are not only the greatest baseball team of all time, are not only the most superior athletic team to ever engage in competition (well, perhaps with the exception of some pigskin choke artists from that annoying state north of Connecticut), but are also the greatest group of 25 individuals ever gathered together for any cause, athletic or otherwise.

If you\'re a fan of sports, or even just a human being breathing on the planet, please don\'t miss your chance to be part of this historic event. Watch every Mets game and root for them, even if you hate them. Watch every pregame and postgame show, even if you\'re having sex at the time. Videotape every Sportscenter highlight and have them on a continuous reel, even if you\'re performing microsurgery on an infant. Seriously. You will be mired in a pool of regret if you don\'t follow every waking moment of this team\'s run to dominance. Cancel your daughter\'s wedding to watch Kiner\'s Korner. Blow off your son\'s graduation so you can OD on Cracker Jack\'s at Shea. Name your next child Omar Willie Johan Pedro Carlos Carlos Martinez Hernandez Sanchez Dwight Tom Doc Ya Gotta Believe Terrific El Duque Joe Smith Strawberry. Or if you have twins, name them 1969 and 1986.

Seriously. You are truly a moron, an ignorant, uninformed neophyte if you miss your opportunity to be part of what will undoubtedly be a glorious summer and fall.

Predictions: Johan and Pedro both go 35-0, David Wright wins the quintuple crown, Carlos Delgado hits 100 home runs, John Maine and Oliver Perez each throw 15 perfect games, Billy Wagner records no saves because the Mets will win every game by 10 runs, the Phillies and Braves will lose every game except for when they play each other, Willie Randolph will come up with a second cure for polio, Omar Minaya will end the unrest in Darfour, and Fred Wilpon will discover another planet, which will be appropriately named, Amazin\'.

I\'d also like to say that I consider this to be the \'best writing\' of my esteemed .info career and that I expect my Pulitzer to be PM\'d to me by sundown.

It\'s outta here!

Absolutely FANTASTIC post Pitch. Laughing my ass off right now.

Quick question though, If Wright is achieving the quintuple crown and Delgado is dropping 100 bombs..............??

Matsuzaka looking good tonight.  9 K\'s, only 1 run on a HR, pitched 6.2in, 0 walks and only 2 hits.

BTW: Variteck was robbed.  Clearly a Home Run.

1-0! 161 to go!

Shouldn\'t it be 172 to go?

On a side note, it looks like Pedro is back to his old form...soon to be added to the DL. Fortunately for him he will have some company after DL-gado plays a couple more games. However, that would be good for the Mets as he\'s garbage to begin with.

You are right about the whole 172 thing.

However, you\'re wrong about Delgado. If the Mets have a "garbage" player who hits 38 home runs, as Delgado did two years ago, along with being the team\'s best performer in the playoffs, then they\'re not doing too bad.

Translation: Delgado is primed for a big year, as are the Mets, regardless of the outcome of Pedro\'s MRI.

I\'ll agree that Delgado was your best playoff players 2 years ago but that doesn\'t mean much if they miss the playoffs again. If anything the Mets are primed for another big disappointment considering all the hype and expectations from signing Santana. This is not directed to you personally but, in general, I just don\'t see how adding Santana to the Mets rotation skyrockets them to the World Series. There is way too much hype surrounding a player who is only going to start every 5th game or so. Don\'t get me wrong, he will finish in the top 5 in many NL statistics, but that doesn\'t mean the rest of the Mets rotation is going to be good or anywhere near his level.

Of course, this could change if Pedro is out for an extended period of time, but the Mets\' No. 3 and 4 starters--Oliver Perez and John Maine--each won 15 games last year. Not many teams in baseball can say that.

Good to see Hoffman getting back to his September form. After getting two outs in the bottom of the 9th he then allows an RBI single then a 3-run HR. Heath Bell can\'t take over soon enough.

boozey my friend you are either being a serious hater or ignoring the facts.

either way your underestimating and shortchanging the team in a big way.

you act like they added santana to a team of scrubs and expect a world series which is not the case

they were a solid team before they ever signed him and they are even better now.

first of all they were one game away from the world series two years ago. they were also HANDS DOWN the best team in the NL that year.

you talk like they sucked last year which they did not. they just choked at the end of the year.

they were in first place all year right until the very last day of year when tom glavine gave up seven runs in the first inning.

they are a very solid team all around this year.

they have a great rotation. their ace is arguably the best pitcher in baseball. number two is three time cy young award winner (granted and aging one) number  3 and 4 are both capable of being lights and itching 200 innings and winning 16-19 games. and we have good options for the firth spot too and decent replacements for injured starters.

defensively we are VERY solid. jose is an amazing short sto. tron is great center fielder. churchy has a cannon of an arm in right. and schneider is a great defensive catcher.

the bullpen is solid as hell too.

we have great 7th 8th and 9th guys (feliciano, heliman/sanchez, wagner) a great long reliever (sosa) and a few good specialists as well.

offensively we have an absolutely fantastic 1-4 with two of the biggest superstars in baseball not to mentions tron and a perfect number 2  hitter/

5-8 is a bit iffy but delgado is still capable of 30 hrs and 100 rbi;s still. alou when healthy produces at about the same level as dwright and we have great back ups when he is out. churchy is a very solid number 7 hitter capable of hitting .285 with 25 homers.

the bench is VERY good also.  easly, endy, and the best pinch hitter on the face of the earth.

overall it is a very well rounded and team with few holes and we have a lot of motivation to bury the competition after last year. if we stay relatively healthy we will own.

we are capable of throwing 4 lights out pitchers in a row and putting up very big offensive numbers. how many other teams can say that?

did u see the game last night?

when was the last time the padres beat someone 13-0????????????????

when was the last time your forth best  pitcher went 6 scoreless with 8 strike outs?

I stand behind what I said but I\'m also being a bit of a hater. Living in NY I get subjected to so much Yankees and Mets crap, along with Red Sox, that it just gets annoying after a while.

I don\'t think the Padres have the firepower like the Mets do to put up double digit runs every week, especially in their ballpark. But last time I checked you only need to have 1 more run to win a game. If it\'s a high scoring game the Padres might be in trouble but I have faith in their pitchers over the course of a season.

I watched most of last night\'s game. Perez def looked solid. Let\'s see how lights out he is when its September and he\'s pitching against a good team with a playoff spot on the line.

On a side note, if you own DirecTV you should really get the MLB Ticket this season. Besides offering all 162 games for each team (minus Sunday Night baseball games) it\'s upgrade to 28 channels (along with their HD counterparts). For most games you can pick between the home or away team\'s local telecast. They also increased from 10 to 40 HD games per week. If there are a bunch of games on at the same time you can either watch the Game Mix channel; 8 games on the same screen, scroll over which one you want audio for, or the String Zone Channel; anytime a team is in scoring position it brings you to that game. No commercials, tons of highlights and also in HD.

Am I the only person who likes to watch ONLY my team.  I\'ll watch the Yanks when they\'re on, but I\'m not going to spend 3 hours watching boston or the mets or any other team because it\'s on.

On another note, I think it\'s way to early for any team to start making claims towards the post season.

If I\'m home at 7:00 and have nothing else going on I\'ll scroll through the available HD games to see what\'s on. If there\'s a good pitchers duel or divisional rivalry or just a close score late in a game I\'ll watch it. The Padres don\'t usually play until 10:00 so I\'ll at least catch the middle/end of the 7:00 games while waiting for the Padres game to start. Baseball is my favorite sport, so I\'m probably in the minority with the amount I watch. I\'m guessing that\'s somewhere between 30-40 hours a week.

I\'d like to extend a vote of confidence that, despite the slow start, I think the New York Mets are going to win the National League East this year, and will do so with relative ease.
