While the phillies are by no means my team you have to love the comdey they get away with. THe pies in faces during post game interviews, trading you to japan, funny stuff. The best part about this one was how many people were involved with it. Management, his own agent, the media, the whole team. That takes some serious planning!

So if you have not heard already, the red sox are boycotting today\'s game and they and now the A\'s as well will not be going to Japan simply because the club house employees/coaches were promised a 40K bonus as well as the players to go. After the fact they were told that only the players would be getting the bonus, and the coaches/family/ect would have to pay their own way to and from japan. In support of the people who make much less money than they do, and spend just as much time on the field if not more they are not going.

I don\'t care what sport it is or what team, I think this is awesome that both teams are sticking behind there clubhouses like this to get what they were promised. :thumbsup:

I just heard on ESPN radio that some writer from the boston herald got a text message from schilling that a deal was made and they\'re going to Japan.  There was no way that this deal wouldn\'t have been made; it would have caused to much of a fuss for a couple bucks.

yea, it was settled before they took the field today from what I understand. No one is stupid enough to risk spending maybe a half mil for some coaches when the potential loss if you don\'t is over a billion.

If you\'re bored check out some of the clips from the Tokyo exhibition games oin mlb.com, it\'s interesting to hear the japanese commentary.

On a related sidenote, it\'s a bummer that the two A\'s Sox games are @ 6am our time.

I know it. Two weeks ago, while very drunk, I agreed to pull an all-nighter Monday night and then show up at someone\'s house for early morning cocktails and baseball. I\'m hoping no one remembers me making this commitment.

Soooo... I\'m still up. James just went to bed, after starting work at 3:30pm and leaving at 2:30am. I showed up at his work at 12:45 after several classes today, riding 5 horses, and teaching 2 lessons. I have instructions to wake him at 4:40. While bartending, he had to deal with a firemen function, ugh. So I am to wake him, then we are driving to a bar with giant televisions and a full breakfast to watch the game at 6. I feel like a zombie and am about to watch an Office marathon until it\'s time to leave. My question: am I a fanatic, or an alcoholic?

Also, I find this whole thing very amusing considering that when I met him he was quite anti-baseball. Now he has a fish named Ramirez. I think I have created a monster.

Sidenote: we also won season\'s tickets to see the Nashua Pride, which is about the worst baseball team ever. Awesome.

Anyhow the whole point of this is that I am really really really really really really happy that it is time for baseball.
