Friday, June 27th the Yankees and Mets play a double header. The first game is a makeup game at Yankee stadium. The second game is at Shea to open the weekend series. Is this the first time two teams have played a double header with one game in each team\'s stadium?

Is that even technichally a double header?

ANAHEIM -- The New York Mets today named Jerry Manuel interim manager, replacing Willie Randolph. Manuel, in his fourth season with the Mets, had been bench coach since 2006. The Mets also named Ken Oberkfell, Luis Aguayo and Dan Warthen to the coaching staff. Rick Peterson and Tom Nieto have been relieved of their coaching duties.

knew that it was being talked about more and more, but thought theyd wait til after these games against the Angels, not after a much needed win last night. I dont think theyre going to play any better or worse under a new manager, so i hope this doesnt backfire. Hope Manuel can get them on the right path here.

The Mets organization really showed poor class in how they let Willie go.  They pretty much waited until it was too late for the NY papers to include the story in their early editions of today\'s paper.  I disagree with the firing; let\'s hold the players accountable for their poor performance this year.  As I\'ve said before, there\'s only so much a manager can do to motivate their players; it\'s up to the player to perform to their ability.  When was the last time we saw management fire a player for lack of performance.  If it can be done to a manager, it should be able to be done to a player (screw these iron-clad contracts).

That being said, I could give two shits about the Mets, I\'m a Yankee fan and we have our own issues to deal with.

I disagree with Steinbrenner, but can understand his frustration; we lost 3 of our starting pitchers to injury, not to mention all of the other injuries over the first half of the season.  But to say that the Yanks won\'t beat Boston, LA or Tampa Bay is a little quick to jump the gun.

Boston - 5.5 games behind for 1st in the division
LA - 4.5 games behind; not in our division and not currently fighting for the Wild Card, so let\'s get rid of that one comparison.
Tampa Bay - 3.5 games behind for the Wild Card spot.

The Yanks have played 70 games this season, that leaves over 90 games (13 against Boston / 10 against LA / 8 against Tampa Bay) to make up a maximum of 5.5 games.  Will they win all of those games, no.  But to forecast that they won\'t beat those teams at this point in the season is just plain stupid.

thats exactly his problem. he is too used to winning. It\'s easy to look like a great manager when your team is clicking on all cylinders and owning the entire league. Once that stopped willie was a total fish out of water. He was in total denial had absolutely no clue how to right the ship when it was going down in epic fashion last September so he just kept assuming the team would bounce back despite his robotic unemotional demeanor and the fact that he was totally out of touch with his team and had no clue how to properly handle the situation or reconnect and motivate his players.

Wait, are we talking about Willie Randolph or Joe Torre? I think all of those years in the Bronx made Joe forget that he\'s a pretty mediocre game-day manager.

I actually think that Willie is a pretty good manager; he definitely blew some decisions towards the end of last season.  But he has no control over the majority of the make up of his team, that should be on Omar\'s shoulders.  Willie didn\'t decide to sign older players that are toward the end of their prime or past it.  I don\'t know much about their farm system, but it didn\'t look like he much to work with there.  If the Mets don\'t come out of this season after cutting Willie loose, then Omar needs to be fired.

Gary: "What the heck was that?!"
"Oh, this is when Perez just starts making stuff up"

(after perez just freezes in the middle of delivery like dan harren)

I like the new feel of this team already though.

They seem a lot looser and reyes is fired up.

Jerry is the man.....at least for now.

It\'s almost the halfway point of the season, so may as well rip apart some predictions.

Quote from: Klout;178578
Johan Santana (7-6)
Pedro Martinez (2-1)
John Maine (7-5)
Oliver Perez (5-4)
Mike Pelfrey (4-6)

show me a better 1-5 in MLB. (Overall 25-22)

So basically we\'re fuckin stacked and we\'re gonna win a 100 games and the world series :D

They\'re currently 37-38. Sorry Chip.

AL East - Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Devil Rays, Orioles
AL Central - Tigers, Indians, Twins, Royals, White Sox
AL West - Angels, Mariners, Athletics, Rangers
AL Wild Card - Mariners (Rays)

NL East - Phillies, Braves, Mets, Marlins, Nationals
NL Central - Brewers, Cubs, Reds, Astros, Cardinals, Pirates
NL West - Diamondbacks, Padres, Rockies, Dodgers, Giants
NL Wild Card - Braves (Cardinals)

World Series - Tigers over Phillies

4 out of 6 Division Leaders are correct at this point. I was off by one with the Cubs and WAY OFF with the White Sox. The Wild Card teams don\'t look like they\'ll be right either but the Braves have a decent chance at making it, unlike the disappointing Mariners. World Series matchup is definitely a long shot.

NL East - Phillies, Braves, Mets, Marlins, Nationals

care to place a wager on that statment?

It\'s currently Phillies, Marlins, Mets, Braves, Nationals. Good thing we didn\'t bet

Looks like a good possibility.
