How much Original material does Tim play solo?
« on: November 04, 2007, 06:40:34 pm »
I know he is a covers master but just how much original material does he expose to the general public?
I think if he started playing more Original and Breakfast material in his solo shows it could really help promote the band and maybe those that are not all into covers will come out more often.

Another band I love has 2 members that do solo shows(one even has a full sideband) and these are becoming just as looked forward to as the full band. This is because it offers the guys in a different context playing songs not played by the band and reinventing songs played by the full band.
There is also the benefit of converting new fans to the full band via these smaller more intimate shows.

Per usual just wondering.

He\'ll often go enitre TT performances w/o an original.  When one is played it is usually by request from one of us.

I feel like the originals were more common when TT was @ Richters.  Bar is great, but the vibe is not as friendly for jamming/originals.  I think this has alot to do with the front row being indifferent Yalies eating pizza instead of Gencs, Wah and Co. screaming for Tim\'s jams.

I would definitely travel to a TT show from time to time if there was a decent number of originals played. But I am pretty much done with travelling to see them because it is not worth the drive to see covers that I have already seen plenty of times...

Does Tim wear different socks for solo shows, as opposed to full Breakfast shows???

I think Tim def. plays to his crowd and I cannot fault him for that. He isn\'t always playing in front of crowds that are welcoming of improvisational music. It is sometimes very difficult to get the attention of the crowds in general.

When he does have a connection with the crowd we tend to get more Originals and more jamming. I have seen him do a good amount of bfast material and he will generally introduce it as such as well as promote up coming shows with the band etc.

But T Tour is a different beast. I agree it is a good launching point for folks to be introduced to the breakfast but IMHO Tim generally does that by wowing the crowd with his skills.

The last time Tim was local to us, Adrian came along and they tore the place a new 1. So perhaps the answer is to have more of the band do sit ins on t tour.

On average I would say 1-3 originals.
I only request originals
Lately I just request Breakfast and see what he comes up with.
Sat. night it was Inner Glimpse
Cost me a 10 spot.

yeah seems like he is only gonna play an original if its someone’s b-day or they give him extra $$.
which is fine. saves them for special occasions.

Yes sit-ins would be great.
