Bruce Springsteen\'s Magic was ruined!
« on: October 09, 2007, 02:20:07 pm »
its so over-compressed its not even funny!! the normal warmth and depth of e-street recordings is completely missing, though you can tell it was supposed to be there! friggin\' music companies are so focused on profit that quality is irrelevant to them, apparently!

its really a shame, because its a quality album otherwise, and i\'m not even that much of a bruce fan.

I agree with you on the sound, but that was Bruce\'s decision.  He was very specific about who he wanted to produce the album.  It\'s been the same producer since The Rising.

i haven\'t heard all of the album yet, only a hand full of songs on e street radio on sirius.  Too bad hearing that it is not well produced.

i\'m not sure its all on the producer. the industry has been compressing albums relentlessly over the past few years. and the rising, for example wasn\'t this compressed. if it was the producer/bruce\'s idea, however, its a damn shame! missed out on one of the most comforting parts of listening to his albums. like his voice and the song structures are defining attributes, so has been the actual sound of his albums. when you saw bruce and e street on the cover, you knew how it sounded on the inside. and now the songs are structured correctly, clarence is blowing it right, bruce sounds great, but there\'s no room or warmth in it. everything not only doesn\'t need to be the same volume, it shouldn\'t be the same.

It\'s still Bruce and I\'ll take whatever he puts out, but I wish that we would have canned Suzie Tyrell.  He doesn\'t need a violin player in the band; she\'s only there because she\'s a good friend of Patti\'s, but let\'s not get started on her.

I\'m waiting for a Steel Mill reunion.

I agree - it was never that way before.  Bruce\'s vocals were always a little higher on the mix.

Please.....there\'s enough ass kissing to Phish, Grateful Dead, Ween or TLG that you can handle a dozen posts related to Springsteen.  Whether you like his music or not, the man\'s history should afford him a little respect in all music communities.

This is exactly why people need to be educated on what they are listening to. We are all losing to the Loudness wars

really very interesting article. my audio production teacher in college was an old school producer and talked about this all the time. the article clears up a lot of points. thanks for that.

Joe - if you\'re looking to start an anti jersey thread, you can sit on your drumstick.

That being said, it\'s time to hit the road and head home.
