Jambands abroad??? What about us Brits?!!!!

Had to laugh, looking at the "PB in Michigan" and "when have pb made it" threads! PB have always, it appears had a strong local following, playing regular gigs eg The Living Room. I do like the comment about Trey wanting to sit in=success. Surely "made it" means some international recognition, though with the majority of lame no-brainers in the UK buying the crap that\'s in the Top Forty, if we were a barometer of the world, no-one with any talent would make it.

What I want to know is, when, if ever, are pb going to come to the UK? SCI and some of the "old guard" ie Jefferson Airplane, Ratdog are the only bands to do so in recent years - phish haven\'t been for aeons either and wsp cancelled twice in the last year or so. The biscuits have played Japan, but not Europe, but as for moe. and pb, I\'ve never even heard the faintest hint of a show.

If any of you have any rumours, let me know.

Can I also take this opportunity to give a big heads up to any British or UK-based pb fans out there, or am I the only one??!!!

hey man..welcome to the forum. How\'d you end up hearing about PB?...I dont think Europe is on the gig list of upcomming shows but get some cds and hook your friends up out there..radio stations too..you own any of their stuff?? im sure someone here could hook ya up..i personally dont have many good shows

If the rumors have any validity to them it looks like Phish is going to be coming your way very soon, with most of a Europe tour concentrated in England.  I\'ve got Family in Coventry, so if either PB or Phish head that way, I\'m there and we can chill out boombox.

Doc, to answer your question, I got into pb the usual way - grateful dead > phish > sci > disco biscuits > read reviews of pb comparing the guitar work to tdb, so downloaded a few mp3s from livediscs.com. Went broadband in April and since then have been able to download full shn shows. Simple as that really.

As for a proper UK Phish tour - in the words of CSN "It\'s been a long time coming"!!! Where did you hear of this jeff?

Damn, we\'re pretty lucky to be able to see these bands all the time.  Do they have jambands out there?  I\'ve been digging Travis lately, they\'re not a jamband but they\'re good and European.  And the most psychedelic band ever, Radiohead, is English.  I\'d be pleasantly surprised if PB went international any time before 2007.

Got to disagree with wolfman\'s comments re Radiohead - they\'ve not done anything decent since the first album.

OK Computer = the most over-rated album of all time
The Bends = possibly the second most over-rated album ever (2 good tracks only)
Pink Floyd = one of the top English psychedelic bands - the others being, in no particular order, Hawkwind, Kaleidoscope, Man, The Pretty Things, Soft Machine, Gong, Ozric Tentacles, The Move, etc, etc, etc (Hope I\'ve not missed out any other good ones)

BTW Travis would probably prefer to be referred to as SCOTTISH rather than European. We Celts are funny like that - we like to keep our heritage. For God\'s sake, don\'t ever refer to them as English - major social faux pas which would probably result in the losing of teeth to a Glasgow kiss!!(ie a head butt)

Radiohead does get jocked alot in the U.S. Find it quite funny  that a band so caught up in itself finds such a fanbase. I think it is due to the small amount of people who actually LISTEN to the music Radiohead makes vs the large amount of people that gobble down hype.

Radiohead IS overly hyped in the U.S. by this new trend in kids that think they have found this new and exciting thing that is brand new and has never been done before. It in fact has came from England over 30 years ago....

Hey, leith and realisthis, I think I must have found the only Americans brave enough to stand and be counted. Good to see that there are still thosde of us that believe as the great frank zappa suggested, ie that humour belongs in music!!! Any rock band that starts to take it self too serious suffer creatively in my opinion. Rock and Roll was meant to lighten things up, to rile up the partY.  Humor in music, check out the new Tenacious D DVD. Improv humor + fun rock and roll.

alright, i completely agree that humor belongs in music, but you can\'t dismiss a bands talent just because they are suddenly popular or not making jokes in there lyrics. I think radiohead is awesome, and I also think pink floyd was awesome. BTW, once syd left, where are all the pink floyd \'joke\' songs? Zeppelin and rage never had humourous songs, does that mean they suck? I like music for the sake of listeing to talented musicans, and if its funny, all the better, but its not a requirement for making a band good. Having listened to Thom rip out a tech during the soundcheck in NJ, I\'d have to agree that he sounds like an arse, but I\'m not asking to hang out with the guy, I just want to listen to his music.
