If it\'s Boston it\'s done in 6, Detroit done in 5.

Correctomundo.  Celtics over Lakers in 6!

I really thought tonight\'s game might be fixed when, after 6 or 7 consecutive horrible calls against the Celtics, Paul Pierce got called for an offensive foul while standing still and shooting a 3.  I really can\'t believe the Celtics came back and won after all of that.  It just goes to show that if it weren\'t for Doc Rivers and the refs, the Celtics really had a 15 point better group of players than the Pistons.

Well, the Celtics have a 4-10 point better team on the floor than the Lakers, but that may not be enough to overcome Doc plus the refs giving Kobe every call.  The NFL equivalent of Phil Jackson vs. Doc Rivers would be Bill Belichick vs. Art Shell.  It has to be the greatest coaching mismatch in NBA finals history, and Doc Rivers has to be the worst coach ever to coach in a finals in any pro sport.  His use of Cassell over House, or benching Ray Allen in the fourth quarter tonight when he was the hottest guy on the court in the first half...its unfathomable.

But regardless, I think the Lakers are at a severe disadvantage because leith likes them so much.  That\'s always a huge handicap for any team or band.  That alone swings my pick from Celtics in 7 to Celtics in 6.  This is gonna be fun!  Let\'s get it on!

I love how you couch your claim that the celtics will win in 6 with Kobe will get calls and your team has a shitty coach. Down deep you know what\'s gonna happen huh?
Face it the celtics are a worse team than when the season started and the wins they had over the Lakers were before Pau joined the team and the Lakers are playing better ball than any team even the celtics.
It is gonna be so sweet to watch.

btw Since I was born in 1970:

Lost in the Finals in 1973, 1983, 1984, 1989, 1991, 2004

So I called R.J. Bell of Pregame.com who is really good at number crunching, to ask him how much Vujacic cost those that took the Spurs. Bell said that, from looking at betting data he had access to, that 66 percent of people took the Spurs and the 7.5 points or 8 points.

Bell estimates that the game did about $3 million in bets in Las Vegas, but he estimates that worldwide, the game did about $300 million in action. Bell said that, when considering the line move, that shot swung at least $100 million in bets.

last nights game was the worst job ever by an official. for that offensive call against Pierce (who even nailed that 3 pointer after being raped), he should lose his job

For the record I meant Lakers in 6, I would never support any of your teams Wolfman.

(I was always a BoSox fan, so that\'s irrelevant)

Celtics Box Office ticket lines by the numbers (all numbers are estimates but I\'m a very good estimator):

Game 7 vs. Cavs:

My place in line arriving 90 minutes early: 500th
Total people in line at random drawing time: 800
My place in line after random drawing: 100th
Result: Reached window with choice of every price tier available.  (Took 2 at $18 each.)

Today\'s line for games 1 and 2 of Finals:

My place in line arriving 90 minutes early: 3000
Total people in line at random drawing time: 4000
My place in line after random drawing: 1500th
Result: About 500 people away when tickets sold out

Well, it was certainly worth the shot.  Showed up to a HUGE line, about 3/4 of a mile long, way way bigger than the Game 7 round 2 line.  Did well in the random drawing, moved up about 1500 spots but not good enough.  Nothing wrong with blowing two hours outside on a gorgeous day.  I was close but not close enough to make it painful...was still 100 yards from the door when it ended and there\'s still 100 people to go once you\'re in the building.  If it had ended while I was in the building that would have sucked.  Get \'em next time.

*  *  *  (new post)

Today\'s Boston Globe cover story about the ticket line.

I still cannot believe these idiots who camp out all night when it is clearly posted everywhere that it is a lottery and your initial place in line means nothing.  Maybe a few of them know this and do it for fun, but 98% of them end up furious because they don\'t get tickets.  Beleive me, I walked past them all in the game 7 line...nothing but anger.  Geez, know the rules before you play the game.  Raffle tickets go out 1 hour before the onsale starts, you just have to be there one hour early.  People started lining up at 10PM Sunday night for a 2PM Monday onsale?  I know from asking people walking out with tickets that the chunk of people who got tickets arrived to line between 10:45am and 11:15am. (I got in line 12:30 and ended up 500 people short...a lot gave up and left after the cut.)  Any earlier than 10:45 was too early.

From a statistical standpoint it makes no difference where you are so the most efficient thing to do is just get there when the raffle tickets go out.  But from a psychological standpoint, the closer you are to the front the more likely it is that that you will end up in a worse position than where you started, which has to be devastating.  So on both levels it really makes no sense to get out there early and all these people who do it and then get mad are not very smart.

i just go with some friends and split up in line...... alway got at least 4 tickets to everything i wanted to see. but you still have to get there early to get a possible front spot it\'s all strategy

Yeah, I did that trick a couple of times in Phish ticket lines and it always worked out.  It doesn\'t work for huge lines, but in other lines under 500 people and 4-8 tickets per customer it\'s a great strategy.

The problem with these Finals lines is that 1. it\'s only 2 tix per person so having more than one partner in crime doesn\'t solve anything and 2. I estimate that only 800-1000 out of 4000 people (20-25%) in the Finals line got to buy tickets.  So even with 4 people spread out at perfect intervals, it would still be possible that none of them would end up with any tickets and at most only one would make it.  You could spread 5 people out evenly to guarantee that one gets in for two tickets, but if they\'re spread out evenly then you\'re also guaranteeing that one and only one will get in, so now you\'ve got 2 tickets for 5 people which doesn\'t help much.   Not to mention that a couple of your people would have to get there ass-early to penetrate the first 40% of the line.
