Movies to see or not
« on: September 07, 2007, 01:47:32 am »
How about a thread about recent movies we have seen and what we thought of them?

Recent movies for me:
The Bourne Ultimatum which was excellent
SuperBad which was juvenile but very funny
The Simpsons Movie which was very entertaining but catch a cheap Matinee if your going to see it in the theaters
Transformers I forgot I saw. It was pretty much all special effects w/ little plot

Oh and I just caught Spiderman 3 over a friends house and wow did that movie ever suck!

This Is England - best movie I\'ve seen in years
Transformers - entertaining, just as cheesy as the cartoon
The Simpsons - I need to see it a couple more times before judging

Saw Harry Potter on IMAX, paid a little extra, but got to enjoy it withou all the talking/cell phone crap that goes along with seeing it at a regular theatre.  To be honest, I don\'t really go to see movies anymore.  If my wife and I go, that\'s almost $20 without food or drink and then we have to deal with the distractions as mentioned above.  I usually wait a couple months and get it on DVD for less than what it would cost for both us to go and see it.  If I could find a theatre that the teenyboppers didn\'t go to then I would consider going to the movies more often.

See afternoon shows won\'t work for my wife and I as we do house/yard work during the day on Saturday and Sundays are normally spent with either of our families.  But again with the baby coming, money for movies/dvds will be saved for other things.  Besides new movies have really stunk for the past couple of years.

The Departed was good, but I hope Scorcese doesn\'t move ahead with his plans to create a sequel.

^ Yeah, the movie was amazing but I don\'t think i\'ll be able to sit through 2 1/2 hours of those boston accents again. Besides, what do they really have to make a sequel of?

The Simpsons movie was pretty funny. It was basically a long episode with more jokes and old references. If you\'ve waited this long you may as well wait for it to come out on DVD though.

Rush Hour 3 was garbage. I\'m a big fan of the first two. I think Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan make a great combo. The plot was awful and when it ended one of the characters they were going to rescue never showed up again. I almost wish I never saw this movie as it has tarnashed my view on the first two.

I didn\'t see either of the above movies in the theatres. Check this place out if you want to stream movies/tv shows. Most of the links work and they are refreshed quite often if they don\'t happen to be working. http://www.tv-links.co.uk/ I think it is just for streaming but I\'ve never tried to download anything from them before.

[DVD] City of God is a fantastic movie. It\'s in Portuguese but has subtitles just in case your Portuguese is a little rusty. It\'s about, among other things, drugs in Brazilian society, living in poverty and the unfortunate innocence of youth, as they make choices to impress their peers without thinking of their consequences. The main character is a smarter than average kid trying to find his place in life, which ends up being photography. I highly recommend this movie to anyone.

[DVD] Reno 911: Miami. If you like the tv show you will definitely like this movie. I am a huge fan of this show and watch their episodes all the time.

i bought City Of God on DVD a few months ago, but haven\'t watched it yet. i\'ve heard fantastic things about it.

fans of The Departed should check out the Infernal Affairs trilogy. in case you didn\'t know, that\'s where The Departed came from.

Superbad was hilarious.

City of God was really good - the book was even better.  I still find myself watching the following movies constantly:

Star Wars Trilogy (Original Theatrical Release)
Once Upon A Time In America
In The Name of the Father
Animal House
Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back
Goodfellas
Mean Streets
Raging Bull
Suspiria
Friday the 14th: Part 4-6

City of God is amamzing, and if you like it you should really see The Constant Gardener, same director, and very similar, with a little bit more insight.
