Awww...Jets and Giants fans coming together and singing koombayah for 2 weeks.  You guys are soooo cute!

I usually pull for the team that beats the team I\'m rooting for but in this case I\'ll root for Eli before the pats just because they and their fans have been so cocky about this run.
It is the biggest case of Sore Winner I have ever seen.
It\'s like the pats have sucked for a long time and all of a sudden became a behemoth when that is the furthest thing from the truth. I understood Sux fans being cocky but the pats have been steadily building towards this for years.

anyway have fun out in Az. Seth. I truly hope the trip is worth it for the trip alone and you are coming home with at least that because the dream was crushed by Eli"The little QB that could" Manning.

Opinion of the Patriots in other areas of the country.
« Reply #301 on: January 21, 2008, 03:48:47 pm »
It came up with the group of people I was watching the game with yesterday - this includes and is mostly about the "extended" group via cell phones around the country.

Most people not in New England view these New England Patriots the way we (local Patriot, and by assumption Red Sox, fans) view the Yankees; a contempable enemy worthy only of scorn; a team that deserves to be beaten.

That blew me away. Are the Pats setting ratings records because people tune into cheer them on, or is it because most people are tuning in to watch them lose?

I really don\'t care; I\'m going to cheer for them either way. I grew up a fan of the lonely Pats, who, only a few years ago had a 1 and 15 record. I have watched more Patriot loses than victories, by a long shot.

So, this, I guess is my question:
Will the majority of the national audience tune in to cheer on the Patriots to ultimate victory in 2 weeks, or, will the majority watch with the hope that the G-men will be able to do what they came close to doing in week 17, and what no other team has done this season; beat the New England Patriots?

I\'ll be tuning in for the Bud Bowl XXI (I know Gencs is with me). Hopefully Bud Dry makes it there this year.

i don\'t foresee the Giants beating the Pats... sorry. the near loss is still fresh in the minds of the Pats and i think they\'ll go out to crush the boys in blue just to prove they took easy on them last time.

I think that the multi-million dollar "not so mirco any more" brewery industry should pool all their money together and sponsor an ad that says

"Anyone of our beers is better than anything by Aniser-Bush."

are they still doing the halftime celebrity deathmatch?  that used to be a popular option in my younger days of watching the bowls when the halftime shows were sub-par.

I don\'t know how many Pats fans you\'re in regular contact with leith, but you can\'t say I\'m the cocky one, that\'s for sure.  I\'ve been as humble and modest  and respectful of all opponents this season as anyone could possibly be.  A lot of other Pats fans certainly are cocky (can\'t wait to see the scene in Arizona) but what can you possibly reasonably expect from any football fanbase with a team like this?  Any fanbase would be the same.  We\'ll never know for sure though, because a season like this is never going to happen again.

I have to be more fair to the Pats fans yesterday too.  Although many fans at the AFC championship yesterday were treating the game as an automatic win (cocky), the Pats fans were also very cordial to Chargers fans in the building.  (Opposite of cocky.)  Any Pats fans I saw talking to Chargers fans just struck up casual conversations with them.  When the Pats scored there was no in-your-face action, just a pat on the shoulder, a smile, and a "nice try, bro."  I walked around at halftime to stay warm and ended up in the cigarette scene where I talked to some cool SD fans.  All SD fans in that area (about 25) were either left alone or were just in friendly chitchat with Pats fans.  Even the Chargers fans who got ridiculously obnoixous waving towels and screaming for 5 minutes straight when they want up 3-0 were just ignored.  It\'s been like that all year with all visiting fans.  Pats fans might be guilty of taking wins for granted but we\'re actually just too in love with our team to be mean to others.

Well leith, I\'m sure the Giants and Jets fans will welcome you and anyone else into their koombayah circle, so put your arms around them and sing along!

Which one is which?

If you like Hoppy beer, I\'d suggest Ruination by Stone Coast (CA), or Hops Devil by Victory (PA).

Youre so wrong. i feel like the masses gather together to hate on any and all new york teams without exception.  i even felt perverted bias and favoritism in the announcers performance.  I anticipate a wide arm bandwagon reception for the boston team and as usual, contempt for the nyers.  im not saying they dont deserve it. it feels good to like a GREAT team, and even better to cheer for a team you expect to win, but anyone i know outside of ny/nj roots against the giants/yankees all day. i dont know why.  all the money and intelligence we have here breeds jealosy, even though the quality of life in NY is somewhere between dogshit and poison. but i guess we cant choose where we are born.  seth, im jealous of you, have fun out there. GO GIANTS BABY!

Actually, I had this disucssion with a couple of my friends who are from NY had this summer and came up with the very simple answer;

The guys who win the race don\'t care about the people who came in behind them. The people who come in 2nd always have to stare at the back of people who come in first, hence the dislike.

It\'s childish, yes, but it sells t-shirts so society promotes it.

I heart Adam Smith.

No Seth I have to hand it to ya. You have been very considerate in your posts and have focused on the pats over their opponents.
I know many pats fans as S.D. has more folk not from here than from here and it has been nauseating to hear all the shit talking on other teams.
I am still not convinced this is the best team ever due to their playing such a subpar division this year but I cannot argue w/ a perfect 19-0 season with much strength I know.
The were very lucky in the injury dept. this year also.

I\'m really loving the Ruination right now. I was amazed and delighted to find it here in New Hampshire (at a store that caters mainly to home brewers.) It is De-fucking-licious.

Anyhow sorry, back to football.

I think I may have just come across Wolf\'s idol:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=perfectpats
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash
