Leith, please answer the essay question.  It\'s now a 2-parter:

1.  Do you get more excitement out of watching your team win or watching the Patriots lose?

2.  A genie can guarantee you that the Patriots lose this week, but the Chargers must also lose their game.  If you do not take the deal, the Patriots beat the Steelers.  Do you make the deal with the genie?

when you\'re undefeated, every opponent treats you like the last team on earth. hell yeah it gets tougher. we\'ll see what happens but to talk shit on the patriots is a joke right now. they have to face top-notch intensity and preparation from teams every game, crowds that smell blood, and tons of pressure (which they handle unbelievably well when their backs are against the ropes late) whether they admit it or not. if they lose to pittsburgh, they will roll through the playoffs. if they win out in the regular season, the AFC is going to be the best dog-fight in years. that\'s all i\'m hoping for. the level of excitement in each game is going to be off the charts if they\'re still protecting a perfect season.

I agree that Pittsburgh is the last hurdle for them in the regular season.

I disagree. Week 17, first round bye locked up (if they\'re 15-0), on the road in Giants Stadium. The Giants might be playing for Wild Card position. They also have a pretty solid defense, great run attack (presuming both Ward and Jacobs are healthy) and if Eli can be patient in the pocket they stand a chance to win. Now, that\'s a big IF but it\'s definitely doable for the Giants to play above their heads and steal a win from the Patriots. I\'m not holding my breath for it but I\'m def not ruling it out either.

I think Pittsburgh stands a very good chance this weekend. Don\'t forget, they\'re the team that snapped the Patriots ~24 regular season winning streak back in 2004.

Unless Eli Manning starts to play much better and gets that offense moving without sputtering, they have very little chance. The Giants Defense can make it happen but without an offense it will be useless.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

1. Watching The Chargers win.

2. Hell no.

Oh and the Giants are one of the luckiest teams around. Eli Manning is a joke.

I guess I\'ll give you the benefit of the doubt leith, but I find that very, very hard to believe.  Every week you get on here and gush your hatred for the Patriots, yet we haven\'t heard you mention the Chargers in months.  How are they doing anyways?  If you were so much more excited for the Chargers, wouldn\'t you be talking about them?

Anyhow, booz, the week 17 pick for the Pats loss vs. the Giants has been the popular one for the last 2 months but it\'s not the one.  First, the Giants will have nothing on the line.  They will be firmly locked into the 5 seed with nothing to play for.  They can\'t win the division, and they won\'t have a chance to drop to the 6 seed.  They will be resting up for their playoff game the following week and you won\'t see any of their starters in the second half, while the Patriots can afford to keep going because they will have a week off after this game.  But more importantly, if the Patriots show up to that game 15-0...there is absolutely, positively no way they will hand over the perfect season at the last minute to Eli Manning and the New York Giants.  For better or worse, they will be going 110% and they will handily win even if the Giants somehow end up with something to play for.  If the Patriots show up carrying a loss, then they won\'t be playing either and could definitely lose their second, but not their first.

The Giants blow. I just watched them beat the Bears.

But this is not very Belichickean of me, is it?  There is only one game on the schedule.  And that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.  I will have live postgame analysis from Gillette Stadium following the game.  Be sure to tune in!

Thing is Seth you bring out the worst in me. If you were not jocking the Pats so much and had actually conceded to me you were wrong to bail on your Sox when I was out there, I probably would not be so vocal. I do hate the Red Sux and Celtics but the rest of the Boston sports teams I couldn\'t really care less for even your beloved Patriots.

The Chargers are doing just fine. Up 2 games in the division and Norv Turner\'s plan of tinkering with the team( which has been killing me and all I could post would have been inane frustration) to have it running at top performance at the END of the season seems to be working.
The players are starting to buy into Norv\'s plan and they are killing teams on Defense when they were not earlier in the year.
That Baltimore team your Pats just barely beat? The Chargers killed them the week before 32-14.
I pray really really pray The Chargers get another chance at the Pats in the playoffs. I really do.

Chargers big comeback win. Surprising too, they looked like shit all game and really turned it on late. I was impressed with a resilience I didn\'t think they had.
Feed LT. Feed LT. Pass the ball. Feed LT. Pass the ball. Feed LT. Equation for success. Feed LT. This has been their biggest issue the last couple of seasons, not feeding LT enough. Seems like they\'re starting to catch on. Average of about 25 carries last 3 games, all wins. Last Loss--vs. Jacksonville--LT only 16 carries.

And how \'bout those Pats. They should definitely run the regular season table now. This is going to make the Playoffs much more difficult for them to run, imo. It\'s going to be extremely entertaining.

Huge win for The Chargers.
I passed out in the 4th quarter( I had been at TLG late nite and drove home this am from L.A.) fully expecting to wake to a loss. So glad we have a DVR. They did look like shit the whole game. They were just getting beat the fuck up by the Titans and I was really gettin\' bummed. Hell of a way to suck it up Chargers.
This is the type of win they needed and it was on the road!

19-0: 6 to go[/B]

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

No brilliant last-minute TD drives.  No controversial calls.  No doubt about it.  Just another day-at-the-office 3-touchdown win and second-half shutout over a 9-3 team with the top-rated defense in the league.

Incredible seats today, just 20 rows up at the goal line where the Patriots scored both TDs in the 3rd quarter including the alltime classic Brady>Moss>Brady>Gaffney.  Then the Steelers drive to make it first and goal...oh, end of the 3rd quarter, bring that action right back over here to our side!...Stuffed, stuffed, stuffed, and stuffed, right in front of us, good night!  Best moment of the night (besides the 3-pass TD) was Moss\' first catch, seen above, which also happened right in front of us.  Moss was totally covered but reached right over his defender and grabbed the ball, sending the entire section into conniptions.  Even the Steelers fans started laughing.  Look at that picture, he is behind his defender!  To cap the night off, being behind Pittsburgh\'s bench, we unleashed a little "guarantee" chant.  I guarantee that if the Steelers show up here again, the results will be the same!

Sorry, that\'s not how it works.  You\'re thinking like yourself, not like a Patriot.  What you are really saying is, "If I were a Patriot, the pressure of entering the postseason 16-0 would weigh heavily on me."  But you have to understand these guys and how they think.  They are invulnerable to mental handicap.  They know no past.  They know no future other than the very next game.  They never believe they have accomplished anything until the confetti flies.  They are programmed by Belichick and they all think and act this way all the time.  If you listen to their radio shows and mid-week media sessions, they all say these things every time.  This is nothing new.  There are a lot of things that will affect what happens in the playoffs, but their season record isn\'t one of them.  When you take the field against the Patriots, you have the mental disadvantage by default.

(I know this will be a lost analogy on most people, but if you watched Star Trek The Next Generation, you remember The Borg.  The Borg were a collective being that all shared the same thoughts that were programmed into them by one mastermind.  They were absurdly efficient and an impossible enemy.  Check out this quote from their Wiki page: "The Borg have become a symbol in popular culture for any juggernaut against whom \'resistance is futile\'...They operate towards one single minded purpose: the pursuit of perfection...This is achieved through forced assimilation..."  The Patriots are The Borg.)

And finally, what the hell are the Colts doing running up the score on Baltimore right now?  They go up 30-0 in the second quarter and Peyton Manning is still throwing the ball in the second half?  They should be missing tackles on purpose and punting on first down!  What a classless organization!  ;)

The Borg were defeated in the end though.
