PEARL JAM: Immagine Nel Telaio (Picture in a Frame) [Live DVD] -9/25/07

I think you got me all wrong.  I\'m interested in bands playing "obscure" covers and making them their own.  Trust me, I\'m the last person who wants to hear a generic and trite classic rock song at a show (The Doobie Bros. was a poor example).  I just think PJ recycles the same sound over and over again.  On top of that they keep on getting compared to the Dead.  I\'m not a deadhead, I really could care less about the comparison, but if they are going to test out the improv waters, do it full force, not half assed.  I\'m also not a fan of jambands, I\'m a fan of GOOD music.  I don\'t expect every band I see to wail out a 10 minute type II version of their 4 minute pop hit, I\'m looking for creativity and flawless execution.  But if I see a band having the potential to expand themselves I think they should go for it. And with PJ being as poweful as they are, they can do whatever the hell they want.

Pearl Jam is who they and they\'ve continued to be successful for the past 15+ years, they must be doing something right.  I don\'t consider them to be anything like the Grateful Dead and I am a fan of both bands.  I just think that they\'ve decided to do something different for themselves and their fans.  That being said, they are one of the only bands of our generation to actual stay the course and continue to succeed where the music industry has continued to churn out 1 hit wonders.  I am just happy they continue to make music and tour.

Are you shitting me?  Please point me in the direct of the rag making this comparison.  Talk about opposite ends of a spectrum!!

You talking about a band that is doing exactly what they want.

PJ will rightfully be inducted into the Hall of Fame the first year they are eligible.  Not just cause they are one of the few bands to survive the early nineties musical  revolution.  But because they\'ve consistently made some of the greatest rock music of this generation.

I guess?  I felt the PJ much more back when Riot Act came out. Since then it\'s been blaahhhhhh. IMO.

Slim - I remember seeing something to the effect that Pearl Jam might be following in the direction of the Dead in Rolling Stone.  But anyways, I agree with you.

I think it was in a relix mag (the one with PJ on the cover).  I remember reading that too

It was referring to the fans that follow them cross country/Europe every tour (i think)

In that context it\'s still an amazing stretch.  Relix is a bastion of journalistic integrity

They also said that PJ used the GD stage in Chicago after the Deads last show.

I have the Relix mag, if you want to read it Slim.

It was also in Newsweek, Rolling Stone and various other publications. Relix merely capitalized a few sensationalistic statements made several years ago.

since the fire is burning bright...pearl jam peaked at no code. that album was too good for their own good. everything they have done in the studio since then cannot compare. this is all my opinion, of course.

I feel they peaked with Vitalogy, then hinted at improvement with Riot Act.
