I hate to state opinion as fact BUT....
« on: July 09, 2007, 05:08:20 pm »
This is by far the greatest Disco Biscuits show of all time.

4/28/2001- The Howlin\' Wolf, New Orleans, LA
Set I: House Dog Party Favor, spacebirdmatingcall, Jigsaw Earth > Floodlights > Jigsaw Earth, Above the Waves

Set II: Mulberry\'s Dream, Crickets > Munchkin Invasion > Crickets, Spectacle, Vassillios > Munchkin Invasion

Encore: Pilin\' it High, Aceetobee

I TOTALLY forgot about it until of recent.  It\'s absolutely flawless. Song selection, delivery, and energy are all off the charts.  I remember grabbing it from Adam Foley\'s Daily Goods back in \'01 and being unable to listen to anything BUT this show for that summer.  After giving it a listen today I realized just how blissfull this band can make me feel and felt the need to share it with you guys today. I hope you get as much joy out of it as I do.

1) no you don\'t! you LOVE doing just that. but its ok, we still accept you (gabba gabba hey!)

2) there is a slight possibility, based solely on your recommendations mstrey & sps, that i will try to d/l this somewhere and try again with those guys. i\'ve been present for a couple shows that were supposed to be best evArs and wasn\'t moved, but i\'ll try again, just for fairness\' sake. i just re-tried UM and came out with the exact same opinion as i\'d had, so don\'t expect anything to change, but i\'m nothing if not open minded. ...most of the time....

Jason I\'m serious. I rarely post on any boards these days. The thread title was meant as an ironic joke :)  I don\'t think this will get you on the bandwagon, because that shipped sailed back in 99-02. It will however be an enjoyable show for your collection....

PS
I no longer find UM appealing as well....

Oh, and whoever listens to this show I would really like to hear your reaction, whether it be yay, meh, or nay.

It is a very good show, from one of the best years...but, it isn\'t even the best show from the 2001 Spring Tour , let-alone ALL-TIME!

I am too lazy right now to link to the archive, but get listening to:

3/30/01
4/1/01
4/7/01 (one of the top shows of the year! PURE EVIL!)
4/14/01

I feel all four of these(except maybe 4/1) are far superior to the Howlin\' Wolf show...which as Joe said is saying alot.  God I love the Disco Biscuits!

Damn straight.. For some strange reason Walsh this show surpassed the ones you mentioned IMO. From gouging Type II jams the past 12 years, I\'ve developed a keen sense for improvisations that intertwine thematic development and space in a balanced way.  This show exhibits the best of Bisco doing so.  Peaks are abound, but never in a rushed manner. Buildups are intricate, not stale and Magner\'s washes are some of his best.  2001 is my favorite year for sure. This is all just my opinion, but man do I love this fucking band.....  Really hope I get to see them at some point in the next several years.

They are getting away from the 4-on-the-floor all show now.  They are really clicking and getting better every show with Allen.  They finally are getting their psychedelic edge back and really exploring patiently again.  The thematic jams are the main reason I got into the Biscuits in the first place.  You could get lost so many times if you weren\'t paying attention because they would develop new "songs" on the fly from jams...it is really an amazing feat when they are on.  Definitely check them out in the fall...I am guessing there will be a huge tour.

Totally Walsh. I don\'t have many 07 boards, in fact I still have to finish up my Fall 06 ( I have the entire tour sitting on my external, but no blanks).  The Bisco crowd is too much for me to handle (energetically) at this point. I\'m sure by fall I should be all good though.  I just hope the boys start to bring back on the shelf tunes. My only real criticism of Allen-era Bisco, besides the covers, is I\'m not a big fan of the song rotation the past several tours.  As for the new album, they dropped their old producer and picked up Posford. Walsh, I know you\'re a psytrance fan so I won\'t be an asshole. I don\'t think Bisco made the best choice.  Whatever.... this band makes me feel infinite. Seldom do they ever make me fall sleep (unless they dabble in Encephalous Crime material).

My personal favorite Bisco jam. And I swear if anyone can top this I\'ll hook you up with 50 albums of prog, krautrock, fusion and electronica..

Awesome call on that jam...That was my first Biscuits show...listening back I still can\'t believe how lucky I was to hear such an amazing show for my first.

As far as the psy-trance thing goes...I really think they are working with Posford more for his Dub/Downtempo(Shpongle) input, plus he is an amazing producer as far as quality goes.  I am sure he is teaching them things about recording techniques that they had NO IDEA about.  I am very excited to see how this album comes out.

The band was dosed for the 4.28.01 show by the way.  This same topic(best of \'00 and \'01) is on PT right now.  I almost forgot about that story.

By the way, my call for sleeper set of the Fall \'06 is the 2nd set of the 11/15 show from Missouri...amazing stuff going on there.

As far as rotation, there is a new article up on PT that has Allen talking about how he still needs to learn about 30-40 songs from the Biscuits repitoire...he has already learned close to 100 songs(very well at that) since joining the band.  Sammy is quoted as saying that Allen has already surpassed anything technically that he could have done with Biscuit songs...sounds good for the future there.

Oh and here are 2 jams that I feel beat the hell out of that one:

4.17.99 Shimmy->Basis
HUGE

3.27.99 Run Like Hell->Nughuffer
Best Biscuits show...EVER!

Walsh, 11/17 was my cherry popper too!! Remember Barber coming out in his hoodie, grinding his teeth like a 1 year old?! I was front row and taken into the divine for sure. At one point I remember getting down next to Brownie\'s Mom.

It\'s nice to know that the shelved songs are merely in reconstruction. I\'m sure Allen will bring a new dimension to the HAB and Chemical Warfare material.  As for the 4/28 dose out. Yeah, it\'s amazing when it hits a musician right, as opposed to the first TractorBeam show at Ontourage.

Posford on the other hand. A divergence of opinion if you will.  I don\'t know what direction Bisco is heading in. Personally I wish they would revisit their production style via They Missed The Perfume.  Posford\'s stuff sounds too clean, too one dimensional. A lot of the sounds are kind of trite.  But I\'m more a fan of trip-hop, electro house and Laswell\'s millions of projects, so it goes to say I\'m pretty biased.  I\'m sure whatever they do will be a treat.

The Disco Biscuits have easily taken over as the premier act in the scene right now........

You can argue till your blue in the face about their music, but I have never ever ever seen a crowd more focused on a band while they were performing than the Biscuits crowd.......

They bring the heat every single show and their fans are grateful and show mad mad appreciation every single night......
