interesting, nice support from people. i wasnt going to reply until i saw some moron\'s post about TB not having any idea how to make music together or something. that guy definitely, definitely deserves a sweaty tea-bag. anyways, looks like dpeck is somewhat of a legend from the past according to these guys! and while its on my mind... FUCK RELIX. its getting worse.

A bit messy, but  have copied and pasted it from the thread - you\'ll get the gist of it:

Topic: Why hasn\'t the breakfast broke out yet?

super-phat-al

I think this band is awesome.  End of story.  Tim can play the shit out of the guitar and can write some killer songs.  Band is tight as hell and the drummer is sick.  They put on some killer shows have a nice selection of tunes they could play.  I know they\'re really big in the northeast, but i think they deserve to be known throughout.

IMO theres a lot of shitty ass bands that pass off the whole jam band thing and these guys could kick the shit out of them.  All great musicians and their influences are all in place.  Hopefully when i move to Ithaca ill be seeing a lot more of them.

Mark S.

this is the 1st i\'ve heard of them. there any torrents posted of them anywhere Huh?

Patch Rat

they used to be psychedelic breakfast (no?).  haven\'t heard them either, but i know they are on archive.

The first time I saw these guys they completly blew me away! I mean I got chills during their first set.
I\'ve  talked to a couple of the guys in the band they are real cool people.

Cactus

figured id drop my 2 noncents about these guys.. i was introduced to these guys back in er late 97 early 98 from a friend that lived in CT .i bel. they were based out of CT at the time, not sure anymore. he picked up the 1 and only cd at the time very clever but a little weird . i def. found myself bobbing around etc. well i checked em out live a few times, i\'ll agree to whats been said. theyre guitarist is very good along with the rest of the band (ive never fealt the keyboard player fit in, but thats me, he may be better now). they are all really really nice and good guys, very low egos and real laid back. all were approachable and would talk to anybody.i think the music can be a little too much at times, meaning a little too many changes, maybe trying to grasp the "phish" concept, and for that i think its been a turnoff for some. i also think is been a matter of bad timing, they started to pick up steam when phish was in high demand and fell to the side persay. well now phish is gone and everybody is a "jamband" so they\'ve been forced into the glob of wannabees and the generalization of what is. kind of sucks but again the fact of it is what it is.  these guys are good and much recomended . i think they\'ll keep there loyals and most def. turn a few heads at a show or fest, but as for lifting off , i think they have the talent but again are just washed in the mix .

Cactus ... Cactus

why...i don\'t know. but i have seen these guys a handful of times and they are extremely talented, down to earth, and fun. it seems like some other bands do get more recognition without necessarily being better than the breakfast. regardless, I know for a fact they are gonna rip up the beer tent at moe.down.

very well put.  They do get thrown into the mix.  When i saw the breakfast at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore back in April, no one was there.  Maybe about 15 people or so, but they could have cared less, they put one hell of a show on.  I talked to the guitar player before the show and asked him if they could play any zappa tunes.  Sure enough 4th song they played flower punk and i almost fell over.  It was perfect.  Unreal show and really cool guys.  Maybe they would break out a little more if they opened for moe. or umphreys.  Unfortunatly theres no escaping the jam band label for them.  Maybe they tried to escape that by changing their name, i don\'t know... but i encourage anyone who hasn\'t heard them to check them out.  Great band.

stober

The Breakfast kicks ass.I think there #1 problem is they dont get around enough. They have never (to my knowledge)  played in my town.I saw them once but had to travel a little.Plus they have never played Jazzfest or Bonnaroo which is weird considering how good they are and how many bands play at them both.

Cactus

im not sure about theyre travels anymore. they seem to hit alot of east coast shows and fest. def. a big suprise skipping the roo and others but it may be there choice. while i think a fest that big can be huge(in more ways that 1) for a band, it may also be too much . i know they played high sierra years back (per 1 of my conversations, they were headed there ) not sure. it def. is hard to tour these days. i know its a laugh but figure 4/5 guys a sound/ light man splitting 300+/- a night, include food, sleeping, etc. and then to show up like a previous post to 12 people. im sure they rocked it as any band would (those 12 may bring friends next time) but still if your playing for the door 12x5=60 / 5or 6 people = you get the idea.
and too beat the dead donkey , while the jamband scene is a wonderful thing its gone way way way overkill.

yea man, forgot all have dave pec....  im not sure if anyone rem. him for the fall 97 phish days. tapes for the famous "dave pec rig" .. good stuff

Cactus ... Cactus

great band...love it when they throw some Zepplin jams in with their tunes...they play a mean and heavy Zepplin....wish they hasn\'t changed their name...liked the original band name more....check them out if you can

Tim

see I avoided them based partly on their name... trivial I know but with so many mediocre dime a dozen jambands you have to draw the line somewhere. I drew the line at bands with "heady" names that used words like groove, psychedelic, kind, string, cheese, or incident.

seriously though I dig the name change

that and bands the use project and experiment as part of their name...I made an exception for the John Popper Project, and I was proven taht was a mistake...so from here on out...bands using those terms are disqualified

nope there with you...there is way too much crap on the road that people try to pass off as quality music today....gotta filter somehow...and if I miss a diamond in the rough...I will find out sooner or later...Tongue

i believe its a pink floyd reference.  I think to syd barret, but im not sure

jlykos

I saw these guys a couple of years ago and thought that while they were very individually talented players, they had absolutely no idea of how to play actual music.  The songs were dopey as all hell and then the jams featured them playing 10 million notes without any semblance of a coherent direction.

Psychedelic Breakfast have not broken out because:
1.) The "jamband" scene is a very cluttered market.
2.) They don\'t tour much outside of the East Coast.
3.) They simply are not very good.

I agree with the Gregory Theory of Music Selection.  Bands with the words "Project," "Experiment," and "Some guy I have never heard of followed by the word Band" in their title are never to be seen or heard under any circumstances.  The only (and I mean THE ONLY) exception to this rule is the Jimi Hendrix Experience.  And I have never heard of Dave Matthews either so he qualifies under the last term.  I don\'t like bands that ask me to spend money to see a "project" or an "experiment" which implies that it is unfinished.  They should pay me to show up instead and critique their performance until it becomes a finished product that they can actually charge customers in good conscience to see them.

I could put you guys to shame with weird band name hangups!! Roll Eyes
I like ones that are just a loosely assembled group of words that are hear to say together (i.e. verb, verb, verb, verb,.. in a sentence like structure).

i just got into The Breakfast last December and have been 100% hooked. whoever said they have "no idea how to make music together" or whatever is a fool. sorry. they write amazing original material, its complicated but extremely danceable which is hard to do. their guitarist and drummer are second to none, IMO. i dont know, ive had a real hard time understanding their lack of fans, i still think its their name that fucks them over which is a total shame. ive seen all the \'big-dawgs\' of the jam-band scene so many times, and there hasnt been one show from any other band that was better than the worst Breakfast show ive seen. their energy and inability to ever mess up while taking tons of chances cant really be compared, once again IMO. see them, theres no way youll be disappointed. any of you guys hear about their two night run at the Puppet House in August -- covered entire albums 1. Morrison Hotel 2. Sgt. Peppers back to back nights. theyre one of the hardest working bands out there. so excited theyre coming for a midwest run in only a few weeks, to me they take the cake for any live band to see.

glad to see support here, keep spreading the word!

The copy and paste makes it a little hard to read but the thread basically is positive. With 1 person saying they dont know how to play and a long thread hijack about not going to see bands with "heady names" like psychdelic, kind, string, cheese, project, experiment in the names.

but all in all there are a lot of us on ts.com that love the band. I spend almost as much time there as I do here.

The topic of the thread implies that the band is good/underrated, so that\'s cool.  Interesting how more than one person wasn\'t really into them because they automatically lumped the band into their mind\'s pool of "generic jambands".  I got a kick out of the guy who figured that they choose not to play Bonnaroo.

I joined to read the thread and was happy with it. They all made very good points and I understand the hate that one can have with bands that use certain words, but that really is being close minded. However, with the scene being so saturated with many mediocre bands you need to filter somehow.

I have 1 dream for 2006 and that is Bonnaroo and hopefully on a stage not a tent, if they do a tent, I hope its late night and they rage till early morning.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.
