does anyone here like jfjo at all?? i\'ve been listening to them here and there lately..can anyone recommend some good shows for me to download?

I hate how we can\'t have a single discussion about any other band without people rushing to express how much they hate them.  Obviously any band is going to have some people that don\'t like them, but the constant negativity and the way people rush to slam other bands is obnoxious and depressing to read.  I know it\'s not going to stop, I understand that\'s what I\'m signing up for when I get onto an internet message board.  Doesn\'t make it any less obnoxious to read though.  

Holly, I don\'t know one JFJO show from another, but the show from 3/7/02 at Valentine\'s in Albany, which PB opened for, was amazing.  I hope you can find a tape of it.  Also High Sierra \'02.  I\'ve seen a couple of other shows but those are the only ones I know the dates of.

easy wolfman.. i hardly ever talk shit about any other band. if youd like to look up other threads about other bands than the breakfast im all about support. i just cant stand JFJO. they never hold grooves and their keyboardist is just so overrated if you ask me. i know it\'s free-form, but i just think he\'s sloppy as fuck. im entitled to my opinion, dont download any of that shit. itll bring you into dark places. well, i guess it\'s october.

I had JFJO on my list of music to download for months (at least half a year).  When material finally became available on the program I use (Soulseek), I didn\'t dig it as much as I had hoped I would - though I only found about 4-6 tracks worth.  I would give them another shot if there was a consensus download.  

I remember hearing about them from the days of Wolfman\'s tour manager duties and became intrigued by his solid review.  I thought there was supposed to be a JFJO/PB alliance and tour back then from what was mentioned.

I have seen them a bunch and can\'t remember dates... um... there was a good one where they played with The Slip... I think the Slip opened for them... at least that\'s how it SHOULD be... shit sorry that wasn\'t helpful at all.

Only thing I really dislike about JFJO is when they keyboardist goes all crazy for too long on the melodica. It\'s like, hey dude, play your keys man.

It\'s free-form jazz.  There isn\'t supposed to be a "groove"  If you don\'t like that form of music than fine, but it doesn\'t make that band bad.  I think it would be better for the "jamband" scene if there was ALOT more bands that didn\'t just "groove", it would make it much more interesting.

Holly, try to find their set from the Gathering of tthe Vibes in \'01 at Red Hook.  That was an AWESOME set, and even though it was like 100 degrees, the small sidestage freaks were raging IT HARD!  Spiderman had all in attendence in his clutches;)

Agreed. I like when they play in a hectic manner. But then, I like hectic music, so...


Not sure I would say JFJO is a good example of free jazz though. Try... say... some of Wayne Shorter\'s stuff.

I think they have a nice take on free jazz, with a whole new twist.  I am a huge fan of Shorter and Coleman(although I like Shorter with Hancock, more).  I just think that JFJO is a fresh and new addition to an intricate and interesting genre of jazz music.
