Thanks to the box for putting me on the guestlist. I got there 2 songs into the fuzbox set. The crowd was light, but those who were there were definitely listening.....
I was not planning on going as the Wednesday latenight got me home at about 8am and I was in work by 11am. But since I hadn\'t seen the box in some time and they were the only opener at Toads last night, I figured I would stop in.... Ser Pigs, and new cover Say It Isn\'t So (weezer). Also Bound has been taken to new levels by the box, and there was even a little unfuzeboxlike "jam" in there with guitarist Mike Colavope shredding and owning faces.
I overheard a couple of conversations by raq fans that caught the box opener saying things like "those kids were really good", "the guitarist is fucking sick", "the drummer was amazing", "the bass player was holdin shit down something fierce"
I was going to leave before Raq came on, but I am glad I decided to stay. They are much better than I remember..... I would normally just focus on Stoops (keys), but last night I found myself focusing on the entire band. The bass player had some ser BOMBs he was dropping all night and a great voice taboot. Chris? (guitarist) has most definitely stepped away from his Trey imitating and come into his own, and how..... And as per usual, STOOPS IS THE MAN!!!!!! Their originals were great. I found myself thinking "wow, this first set is better than any moe. set I saw at moe.down".
Oh and Raq Lights = pretty fucking ser!!!!! But I guess thats what happens when you have 5 WORKING intelligent lights all WORKING..... Ellis, I still love you though....
The only cover I heard them play was a fucking fast ass and funky version of ZZ Top\'s Cheap Sunglasses. I dont know if it was a first time played but it was a great spin on a "good song".
I ended up leaving halfway through the second set due to the the fact that I was delierous due to Wednesday > The Blackest Of Thursdays.... But I am sure glad I made it down to Toads last night......
These are 2 bands I will most definitely go see again......
Hung with Medeocre Rich and his boys for a bit as well as Chiropracter John...
Crowd was light maybe 150 (as Dobz predicted the night before)......
