As you are probably aware, about 75% of what is posted at tb.info is potty talk, lame insults, and 2 word sentences commonly associated with 5 year olds. The 75% figure actually makes this site one of the most intelligent on the internet. Most boards are around 97-100%. I have been dwelling on why this is and have come to an important discovery:
Internet conversation originated with the writing on bathroom stalls.
For centuries before the internet, where was the one place where people could have exchanges in text with total strangers that was open to the public? It could only be the public bathroom stall. And something about the public toilet has always inspired a regression in intelligence, be it the germs, the smells, the illicit cigarette, the fecal matter, or the observation of genetalia. Every single public bathroom, from the local Wal-Mart to the Harvard Business School, from the House of Blues in LA to the Stop and Shop on Cape Cod, has inspired grown men to communicate with total strangers at an intelligence level lower than the kiddie urinal. Thus, it is no wonder that every internet forum follows in kind. This is nothing more than highly advanced bathroom banter. And most internet forum posters should probably wash their hands after typing the the filth they post.
