we hope it won\'t be too "Hollywood-ized".

unfortunately, everything that comes out of the movie business is "too Hollywood-ized"

Enjoy the film :)

Checked out the film today - pretty good and not too Hollywoodized ;). Liked Freeman in the role of Arthur Dent and Rickman\'s voice adds just the right sardonic humour to Marvin. The Vogons are nicely done, thanks, no doubt, to Jim Henson\'s lot, though didn\'t like Zaphod at all - he\'s meant to be an egomaniac, but a loveable one. Rockwell just didn\'t cut it for me, no doubt as Mark Wing Davey had the role off pat, and could never be replaced. Also the retractable second head idea was pretty crap - it needs to be permanent - and the CGI of the hand was poor. Helen Mirren was a waste of time - call me sexist if you like, but Deep Thought HAS to be a man (and why did they cut so many of DT\'s great lines?)

Back on the plus side, the Magarathean workshop SFX were excellent, Mos Def wasn\'t too grating as Ford and Zooey Deschanel was a rather gorgeous, intelligent Trillian, so much better than the blonde bimbo who played the part in the TV series and had not fitted everyone\'s image of her from the radio and books. On the whole, the script is pretty faithful to the radio scripts (which I just reread last week), though suffered a little from editing it down to keep the film to under two hours.

So overall,a good 7.5/10 - 8.5/10 or even 9/10 if Zaphod had been better. Hope they make the next one.:)

Oh yes, make sure you stay for the end-titles, there\'s some more of the book in the middle of them.

boom,

i\'m gonna see it during the week, sounds like they did a pretty good job though. Gotta agree on zap - that was bugging me in the previews that he only had one head.

hey, you have the radio transcrips? is there a place to download/buy the tv series and or the radio show audio? I\'ve seen stills from the tele and heard reviews of the radio, but never actually gotten either. Point me in some directions if you can. thanks...

Regarding Zaphod, it wasn\'t just the head thing - he just wasn\'t at all likeable, which he was in books/radio/tv.

I bought the radio transcripts of the first two series in a new expanded edition, including the bits that were written and cut out by Adams for time/punchiness reasons. It also included a short sketch: Fit 6 1/2 which was broadcast as part of a women\'s(?) radio programme. Wish I\'d known you wanted it as I got a copy of it for both me and my brother-in-law from a place/website called thebookpeople and it only cost me £3.50 ($7.30) each, though the shipping to you would be pretty heavy.

You can buy lots of Hitchhikers stuff from amazon.co.uk and from amazon.com, though with less of a choice, though the CD of mp3s gets a panning for quality in the reviews. I should watch the newsgroups as it will probably be put up there in the wake of the films. Hopefully someone will have encoded cassettes of the orignal broadcasts. You, of course, got a different edit than us, so there are even different versions of the radio show out there.
