I couldn\'t believe it when I heard the news last night.  Truly a great man and an amazing writer.  He said in a High Times interview a few years ago that if he ever felt that his life was more work than play that he would have no trouble putting a gun in his mouth and calling it a day.  Still, I didn\'t think he would be the type to go out that way.

Have a beer or 2 for Hunter tonight

You think HST was gonna let ANYONE but himself take him from this mortal realm? Be real. If ever there was a control freak it was him. It sucks but having read EVERY word that has been published by him not surprising in the least.

Not saying I didn\'t see it coming.  I don\'t know if I\'ve read EVERY word published by him, but it\'d be pretty close.  Like you said, all the signs were there.  But anytime something like this happens, to say it\'s not at all surprising is a little bit of an exaggeration, imo

Well I admit initial surprise when I heard he died but when I found out it was suicide a scant few seconds later, I nodded to myself. It is a horrible thing for sure.

He was a degenerate madman to some and a literary hero to others some thought he was both. I just know that everytime I was angry at what the hell was going on in this Country I KNEW Hunter felt the same. How did I know?  Because he had no trouble telling the world how he felt in the loudest of voices and it was grand when he did. From the incorrigible kid who faked his way into a newspaper job in the service so he didn\'t have to work so hard and the crazy bastard he became in the 60\'s and \'70\'s to the elder scribe who made sure we as Americans were never TOTALLY complacent he always told it like it was maybe alittle embellished but always entertaining and if  you were paying attention, informative. I\'ll miss reading his work for sure.

Tragic, but not entirely suprising. This makes me very sad....

A man with that much genius is of course prone to instability....
