Concert\'s just finished and no roger waters - sorry freddie.
Watched a fair bit of it over the day and though commendable - even Midge Ure, co-organiser of Live Aid, made an appearance - it was no Live Aid. As for the bill, most of it isn\'t worth commenting on.
Best act for me were Feeder, even if they looked petrified at playing to such a large crowd. They\'re not a band I know much of outside the hits like Buck Rogers. MSPs were OK, but have seen them quite a few times and James\' throat infection showed on the vocals, though he hasn\'t half improved his lead playing since I saw them last about two years ago. EC just did a blues set as that is what Jools Holland\'s group does all the time - competent, but not that awe-inspiring.
Surprise act for me were Goldie Lookin\' Chain - a rap act. Yes, you read me right, boombox aka Rap-hater #1 enjoyed some of that particular genre. It may be that their lyrics are particularly pertinent to South Wales, but they are often very funny. "Guns Don\'t Kill People, Rappers Do" was a surprise hit over here, though I don\'t know whether it will travel well to the States.
What p***ed me off the most was the BBC, who turned the volume down every time Kelly Jones and James (MSPs) spoke. They are known for their use of shall we say colourful language, but the beeb was very slow. They\'d use it, Auntie would turn off the sound until the song started, then would show a notice on screen apologising for bad language. Yes, both these acts were on before the 9pm watershed, but why didn\'t the Beeb put a thirty second delay on the transmission and just bleep out the expletives, rather than everything they said.
Oh well, I\'m just wondering how long before some or all of it turns up on EZT, hopefully in small chunks so I can avoid the Lemar/Craig David!
