HELP- donations needed for abused dog
« on: January 23, 2005, 09:51:07 pm »
This poor dog was beat with something possibly a baseball bat and had his jaw broken.  He has been suffering with this injury for A MONTH in the dog pound, unable to eat.  Now some nice people have saved him from death and have him at the vet\'s.
Everyone says he\'s the sweetest thing.  Needs surgery which will cost $2500.
Any donations are appreciated even if it\'s only a few dollars, every little bit helps.
The vet has an account fund set up for him, West Hartford Veterinary Specialists, 860-236-3273; or donations can be made to the rescue group and will be put toward his surgery:
The Sadie Mae Foundation, 21 Sunset St. Manchester, CT 06040, Beau\'s vet care

you can see his picture and the beginning of his story here:

you\'re terrific.  the pound is right next door to the no-kill where i volunteer; meriden has pop. 60,000, 1 ACO, and no resources.  they kill more than they adopt.  this dog is truly blessed that kind people saved him.
here\'s the latest email update i rec\'d:

A Beau update from his foster mom, Raelene:

First, thanks for all your kind thoughts, prayers and sympathy for this once-cast-aside dog.

Beau had surgery yesterday and it took considerably longer than anyone expected. I didn\'t get word of his condition until after 7 p.m. - it was a LONG surgery.

We had hoped that it was just a shattered cheekbone that had locked the jaw in place. What the surgeon found was significantly more. Apparently he was either hit by a car or beaten with a blunt object, as there was skull involvement as well. The injury was much older than thought, with damage to his teeth and gums from the mis-alignment of the jaw and his inability to chew his food. The vet did major reconstruction on one side of his face/head and got his jaw to open enough to hold a racquet ball. At that point in his surgery (after a couple of hours!), the vet had to decide whether to open up the other side of his face/head and work there, but made the decision that he\'d been through enough (Beau, not the vet!) and the point of all this was to enable him to eat real food.

He\'s resting comfortably at the Vet\'s with major pain meds and a drain in his face. We\'re hoping that he can come home tomorrow night, although I expect I will have to keep him in the spare room by himself for a couple of days of recovery. If I have time tonight, I will make him a bed all his own. He\'s been sleeping on a pile of blankets and old bedspreads. I have chewy hide treats for him and biscuits and will have to get him some smaller marrow bones.

He has such a great personality, I can\'t imagine that it will take long to find him his family once he\'s healed up!
