RIP my cousin Tyler
« on: November 26, 2008, 02:11:54 pm »
Hey all, I got word last week that my cousin Tyler passed away at the young age age of 23. Although I had not seen him since we were kids, I still remember him and I am so shocked and hurting for my other cousins Addy & Jon, and Aunt Valerie and Uncle Jeff in Colorado. I would appreciate it very much if you would visit the website with his obituary. He had many struggles and the world was chaotic for him. I often work with kids at-risk and with special needs just like Tyler, and I only hope that my family becomes closer as a result.

Very sorry for your loss.

That obituary page seems like a nice tribute to him.

I don\'t know if you wish to share, but what happened to him?

experienced the loss and pain I have experienced,
I transcend race, hombre.

He struggled throughout his life with bipolar disorder and later was recovering from drug addiction. He was always so active (even hyperactive) and seems to me to have been a gifted kid with hints of Asperger\'s (type of autism).

For the past few years he had been in rehab then was recovering, and at the time of his death he was living at home with his parents. Somehow some whacked doctor prescribed him a transdermal pain medicine patch (i think it\'s phentinol?) for an unrelated condition- anyone may know that is extremely strong and has been implicated in several deaths from accidental overdose. I guess some people have even tried to steal the patches from hospital garbage cans because they\'re 100 times stronger than hydrocodone. Anyway, Tyler\'s death was likely as a result from this medication stopping his heart, but we\'re waiting on the autopsy results. He didn\'t have access to the med as it was locked, and so his parents are dealing with severe guilt and resentment toward the medical "professional".

Let alone Tyler\'s death, it\'s so sad that kids that aren\'t prescribed pills take them in excess and mix them with other stuff to get high. It\'s a recipe for heart failure...

I really wish anyone suffering from mental illness doesn\'t end in a fate like Tyler\'s. Too many people have died on the account of their self-medicating, poor decisions or doctor\'s misleading treatments.

Wow. Sorry to hear about your loss. Just a terrible situation.

sorry for your loss, lindsey. a close childhood friend of mine passed away about a year and a half ago from an accidental overdose of painkillers that he was prescribed. not exactly the same situation, but difficult enough. these kind of ordeals are so tough to try and make sense of..it\'s especially painful to see it happen to someone so young. hope you and the fam find a way to get through this.

Thanks everyone for your strengthening words. I know we\'re certainly not alone in how these situations can affect us all in different ways.
