I originally was not in favor of this move considering the fact that I\'ve always hated Martinez\'s guts. But the bottom line is that he\'s immediately the Mets ace once he signs on the dotted line. They have to replace Leiter and this obviously does more than that. They still should have signed Leiter and dumped Glavine, but overall, this is a good signing. I still hope somebody beans Pedro just so he gets a taste of his medicine. Then I hopes he beans the best player on the team that beans him. If you\'re gonna have Pedro, better use him for what he\'s best at: INTIMIDATION. And now that he has a World Series ring, I have a fair amount of confidence of him in the big spot. So good job Mets, finally. They still have to push hard for a slugging outfielder or first baseman, work on trading Floyd and Piazza, and solidify their bullpen. They may be a playoff contender next year, but I\'ve been down this road before and won\'t make any statements until I see the roster on April 1.
As far as the Sox role in the move, they had better pursue some legitimate righty to offset this, or else it\'s one of the worst moves, both from a strategic and public relations standpoint, in the history of sports. But then again, I thought the same about the Nomar trade, so who knows? Still though, you have to smile if you\'re a Mets fan today and cringe a bit if you\'re a Sox fan. Maybe Pedro will smoke bowls with his little buddy in the top hat at Shea.
