New passport regulations
« on: November 09, 2006, 09:50:02 am »
Next time the band goes to canada, we will probably all need passports to see them:

Beginning January 8, 2007, US citizens (including infants and children) will need a valid passport to travel to and from Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean (excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). If any portion of your trip will take place after January 7, you\'ll need a valid passport to re-enter the U.S. Plan ahead and start the process to get your passport today.

Land travel into canada is not going to need a passport untill next december, but if you are flying you will need one in january.

I thought the government began this already...this summer.   I went to Mexico for my friends wedding....and according to the travel agent, everyone needed a passport.

Those who need them locally in CT...the best place to go is the Branford Town Hall.....they are very plesant and help out non-residents like myself.  (also note: your passport photo has to stay the same for 10 years, so dont be making any ridiculous faces when you have it done.  (walgreens does them for like 9 bucks, sometimes on sale for 7)   And they print exactly whats on your birth certificate, so if your parents gave you an awful middle name, its there....or in my case.....two middle names, and two last names.  my name looks like a terrorist.

But whatever you do, if you need one DONT wait til the last minute.  To have it expedited for a trip, like lets say its June and you are going in August.....its an EXTRA 150 dollars.  ooooooh......learned the hard way.

I only put it up because I don\'t want to hear another work papers story only this time because no one had passports.

What was even more wonderful about the trip was it was the week in august with the whole "you cant bring liquids on the plane" thing began.   So not only did i have a suspiciously long name, but i also had this liquid lip gloss in my carry-on.  for shame.... i never knew that purchase of sweet pink nectar would bring such controversy.

I think you should be good. I think the  canadian border is more laid back compared to the mexican border.

haha, my friend bob came back from puerto rico with a cigar lighter and they considered it a weapon and now he\'s on a government "red flag" list.

I\'m pretty sure that they delayed the Jan. 2007 requirements, due to the fact that they don\'t have all the equipment needed for the new style passports yet. This was a big discussion over on the jamcruise forum.
