Site speed???
« on: March 13, 2006, 05:13:11 pm »
Does anyone else notice the lack of speed around here? I know Dave thought it was the "new posts" database or something like that and then he reverted it back to the original. I did not notice any improvement after that. It seems that it has been slow for quite some time now. Using six different computers at three locations, I notice the same.

What is kanoodle, because it seems that the page loads are being halted waiting for this site...and then amazon. I\'m not sure, but it may have all started when Dave added the amazon bot that scans the pages for hot links.

Yeah whenever I\'m on a network the site takes forever to load up. Sometime s a page will load the top portion but not the bottom and I have to refresh the page at least 5 times to get it.

wish i knew, but i can tell you that the site definitely sped up when i changed the \'new post\' behavior. it has been pretty slow lately though, like in the last week and a half or so.. i\'ve been watching the server loads, and they\'ve been getting pretty high, mostly during peak (business) hours.. we\'ve also had an increase in traffic lately, which could add to it..

i\'ve talked to mike before about moving to a dedicated server, and it\'s something i really want to do, but it\'s also something that\'s pretty greek to me as far as setup/administration/optimization. there\'s some $ in the .info operating fund - probably plenty for a decent server.. with some more donations i can/will start shopping around for someone to set it up..

It\'s def been very slow for the last week or more, but I noticed the slow down a looong time ago. Thought it just had to do with you working on the vbulletin upgrade, but you\'re pretty much done with that now, aren\'t you?

dave get dual processors!!!!

your host probably has a porn site streaming vids on the server.
a good ram upgrade on the server might work to...

also if you get a dedicated server they have cPanel, user friendly interfaced server management tool.  but you might need to know how it works first so you can have complete control. :)

Speeds returned to normal for me after Dave cleared up the database issue but like Todd said, about a week and a half ago it slowed back down. Not as bad as before but definitely slower.

I hope the new folks stick around and don\'t go the way of Freddie because of this. Good luck with the server research, Dave.

The speed for me improved greatly when dave tweeked the New Posts feature but since then the site has been slow.

If I had to guess it seems to be when it is pulling data from offsite but thats just a guess
