quick question, is there a grass roots fund. i mean is there money being set aside to get promo material out or is everything suppose to be handled by management and the band representative. would it make since to put a couple buck aside from each show to be able to by flyers and cd\'s for those interested in burning cd\'s to pass out for grass root promotion. I love the band just as much as anyone but I\'m a poor bastard but have a ton of opportunities to pass out promo materials up here in RI. especially since Phil is doing two night up here. TLG is gonna be up here as well as UM. there is so much promo potential in a such a small area up here that\'s just going to waste.

I\'m talk\'n grass roots, getting the people to shows that have never EVEN heard the band play. F flyers. some dude handed me a couple UM flyers outside the Knit i looked at them real quick and was like yeah guy I\'m all set. if it were a cd i would have at least listened to it before i threw it out the window.

I\'ll email Tim, thanks Todd.

I agree with you Derick on flyering, it\'s a waste of time, money and paper.  It\'s all about creating a buzz. I\'ve spent the past 5 years trying to figure out how to sell The Breakfast, I have to admit it\'s pretty tough.  I bring at least one new person to a Breakfast show every time I see them, but they dont get hooked :(    I really think there should be a night of pizza, brews and brainstorming.  Who\'s in?  I don\'t mind heading it up (organizing, picking up the food/beer), but I definetly wouldn\'t be able to host it.

just a suggestion...

I\'d host it but methinks it would be a bit of a haul...

I don\'t think flyering is a complete waste... people need to know when the band is around... it just needs to be one part of the strategy, not the whole startegy.

I think it all depends how it is done.

Folks in NYC get bombarded with flyers ever day being handed to them on the street and I alos usually dont even take them but we put a bunch of flyers out in the store downstairs and peeps pick them up on their own so it is a no pressure thing. but it is all about ROI

Street flyers (telephone poles, bulletin boards, stores etc) are GREAT!!

Handbills on the other hand......such a fucking waste. Who the hell saves a handbill?

Brainstorming sesh over a few games of pool at Packard\'s next week before the Iron Horse show?

Most of my grassroots efforts involves making my Breakfast show-going a visible part of my life, and inviting *everybody* to come along to every show. A couple of my friends are now also really into Breakfast and there\'s a few more on top of that who\'ll definitely hit up a local show.

If I hit up a festival I usually try to create some buzz for the bands I\'m there for (usually first and foremost Breakfast and sometimes Uncle Billy\'s Smokehouse cuz they def need the promo) by, ya know, talkin to the various people you meet, "Hey are you going to check out Breakfast, late night set man it\'s gonna be sick".... "Oh, I dunno, I might check out after Max Creek"..."Dude, are you serious, have you ever seen Breakfast before??"..."No I hear they\'re pretty good though, some other people were telling me about them"..."Pretty good, oh man, Breakfast throws down like no other! Definitely do yourself a favor and stick around for a couple more hours, you won\'t regret it."

I walked by the Northampton Box Office yesterday and noticed there were no posters up for Breakfast, which I thought was strange since they have a concert at Iron Horse next week. So I\'ll probably slap one up in their window next time I roll through there before the show.
Put the pointed pencil in the pepper-po and take a little sniff of the things below. :sadban:
