It\'s best that they not show up and ruin the illusion. Nothing sadder than punks entering their fifties and still trying to act punk.

Here is a great Johnny quote from a Pistols show that they did after Patty Smith wrapped up her second night in London promoting her Horses album. "Did any of you go watch that hippy shake her tambourine? Horses, horses, horseshit"
"I taught them everything they know, but not everything I know."

Punk sucks.  Sex Pistols = people with no instrumental talent whatsoever.  2 minutes, 3 chords, and no skill.

I like punk. A lot actually.

Not all music has to be about lots of notes or chords, or technicality, or improvisation... or even skill.... you just have to take it for what it is. You can\'t have fun with it or enjoy it if you\'re being a snob.

Some punk bands are better than others.  I\'ve seen some alternative rock bands with punk influence that were very good - such as Moving Units, Secret Machines, Von Bondies, The Subways.  I like those British influenced hard rocking bands as long as they bring instrumental ability.  But the old school punk bands like Sex Pistols and the Ramones just didn\'t have that instrumental ability.

That was part of the point of punk. It was a reaction to how heartless and sterile mainstream music had become in their eyes. The early punk bands emphasized feeling and emotion over form and composition. To truly understand and appreciate what they were doing you have to look at it in context. It also helps to see the music performed (lots of good dvd\'s are available) as opposed to just hearing it. It becomes easy to understand why the chord changes are so simple when you know the guitarist was giving the audience the finger half the time.;)
