CHENEY WRITES $7 CHECK TO TX WILDLIFE
Mon Feb 13 2006 20:53:55 ET

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Vice President

It has been brought to the Vice President’s attention by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department this afternoon that, although he had acquired a 125 dollar Texas non-resident season hunting license, he lacked a 7 dollar stamp for hunting upland game birds. To address any questions about the licensing:

-- A member of the Vice President’s staff wrote a check for 140 dollars understanding that this would purchase a Texas non-resident season hunting license that would permit the Vice President to hunt quail in Texas. It appears now that the license itself cost 125 dollars, and an extra 15 dollars covered the cost of a Federal migratory bird stamp. The Vice President did not need the Federal stamp, as he already possessed one.

-- The staff asked for all permits needed, but was not informed of the 7 dollar upland game bird stamp requirement.

-- Because the requirement is new, the Department has informed us that it is issuing warnings, and the Vice President expects to receive one. He will take whatever steps are needed to comply with applicable rules.

-- In the meantime, the Vice President has sent a 7 dollar check to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which is the cost of an upland game bird stamp.

meh... big deal. I can\'t blame him for not buying the stupid 7 dollar stamp. It was probably just an oversight. It\'s not like he was hunting WILD quail anyhow, it was on a farm that raises them for the purpose of hunting, so who cares really.

And it\'s not really the same as "hunting without a license"... he had a hunting license... it\'s just a stamp for the specific type of bird. The liberal press just sees it as an opportunity to jump on him about something that really is nothing more that a funny hunting mishap.

The stupidest thing was that Cheney waited so long to release the story because it makes it look like he\'s hiding somethng. Bad move on his part.

I really could give two shits about this stroy though, beyond it\'s comedic value. I don\'t think it matters at all.

Sorry sometimes news/politics make me go haywire.

But see that is the problem right there. Wherever you heard about it from probably made it sound like he was hunting sans license. Fuck the media, BOTH sides of it... ugh... For example... The Boston Globe (left) is a fucking rag, and so is the Boston Herald (right)...

Word is Whittington\'s condition is worsening. I guess he suffered a heart attack while in the hospital and is back in intensive care. He is 78-years old.

Quote from: USA Today
Banko said there was an irregularity in the heartbeat caused by a pellet, and doctors performed a cardiac catheterization. Whittington expressed a desire to leave the hospital, but Banko said he would probably stay for another week to make sure more shot doesn\'t move to other organs or to other part of his body.

"Some of the birdshot appears to have moved and lodged into part of his heart in what we would say is a minor heart attack," Banko said in a news conference outside the hospital.

David Blanchard, chief of emergency care, called it "a silent heart attack, an asymptomatic heart attack. He\'s not had a heart attack in the traditional sense."

What if he does die in the hospital?

Quote from: USA Today
Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch where the shooting occurred, said Whittington made a mistake by not announcing that he had walked up to rejoin the hunting line after going to retrieve his bird, and Cheney didn\'t see him as he tried to down a bird.

The accident raised questions about Cheney\'s adherence to hunting safety practices and the White House\'s failure to disclose the accident in a timely way.

Several hunting safety experts agreed in interviews that it would have been a good idea for Whittington to announce himself. But every expert stressed that the shooter is responsible for avoiding other people.

Then it is really sad and I feel bad for his family, but it was an accident and he was Cheney\'s friend and I don\'t believe charges should be pressed just because we all hate Cheney.

I doubt charges could be brought against the vice-president, except for his negligence. He is an experienced hunter and he did violate the first rule of hunting, and that is to know what you are shooting at.

I just think it is a twisted turn of events that this happened this way.

Like I said before, the stupidest thing was Cheney waiting 2 days to make the press aware of the story. Bonehead. He was eating lunch at the ranch with teh rest of his hunting party while the guy was in the hospital. I think his time could have been spent more wisely. He can\'t possibly expect to be VP and just walk away from that without telling anyone. Bush must be seriously POed... lol... as if the guy wasn\'t enough of a liability to beign with.
