To be honest.. the Phish lot scene and gate crashing started their demise.  Oh yeah.. let\'s not forget.. Jerry\'s death contributed as well.

If anyone is old enough to remember GD lots as compared to Phish lots... the different drugs and menatlity of this new generation is really what killed it. Remember Deer Creek? Gate crashers fucked up the whole scene.

I\'ll admit that GD on MTV was weird to see but it did spur the most album sales they have ever had.. and i think the name of the game is still to sell records right?

Sorry to tell ya but you are one of those that I\'m talkin\' about not in a bad way but that you got on the bus after Touch in \'87. My 1st GD show in April of 1985 had a way mellower scene than \'88. I do agree that it got waaaaaaay outta control in the 90\'s but it had changed once the video came out for sure.  I was @ Laguna Seca when the band invited us to help out w/ the video and thus the crowd in the video is REAL. So I do know that the scene DID change after the video.

I do agree that the younger crowd that attended Phish had a much harsher energy than deadheads were used to and then back east it got transferred to the GD lots and all hell broke loose.  I also agree that it is about selling albums if you are gonna bother to make \'em may as well sell \'em.

the decline began with the persian and touch was an early result of that imo :)

True True I guess it could be said as Jerry wandered so did the music and thus so did the deadheads and once that cohesive family feeling was lost it became increasingly difficult to get back on the larger scale.

sorry to continue the side-track but I was always under the impression that after the "Touch" video a lot of people who were unfamiliar with the scene hopped on board looking for a psychedelic, alcohol infused party as opposed to the more mellow, family reunion scene that it had been
btw the first show I saw was in 92 so I know nothing

You were under that impression \'cause it is true. I say again anyone who was on the bus prior to In The Dark saw the scene change afterwards for the worse.

TheManMulcahey never worry abt bringing up GD, sorry for jacking the thread but when GD is discussed I have to throw my 2 cents in.
