I AM Festival celebrates its fifth year of bringing reputable national and regional indie acts to New London\'s Waterfront Park on September 11, 2010. This year\'s I AM Festival is no exception, with a stellar lineup that includes headliners We Are Scientists, Connecticut\'s own Mates Of State, the long-awaited return of O\'Death and many more. The event takes place from noon to 11pm. It is an all ages event and free to the public.
In its five year history, I AM Festival has boasted some of the indie world\'s best, booking the likes of Deerhoof, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, The Drums, Jay Reatard, Free Energy, Martha Wainwright, amongst others.
This year\'s lineup offers various stages of indie rock success. We Are Scientists, this year\'s headliners, have found a great amount of underground success in the US after releasing their debut album, With Love And Squalor. Their UK success is even greater, charting well with each new record and playing sold-out tours across the pond. Their new record, Barbara, is more indie pop at its finest.
In a similar regard, Mates Of State have garnered critical acclaim and quite a hefty fanbase as a result of constant touring and a solid batch of records. Their latest tours, ironically enough, were in Europe with We Are Scientists and in the US with I AM Festival 4 alums, Free Energy. Mates are proud to be a Connecticut band, hailing from New Haven, and jumped at the chance to be a part of something that they felt was so pertinent to the Connecticut music scene.
O\'Death was the first confirmed band on I AM Fest this year. They are no strangers to Connecticut, having played various venues in the state multiple times. A couple years ago, at the height of their buzz, the band took time off and dealt with personal issues and their outstanding side projects, Blood Warrior and Skeletonbreath (who are, in fact, on the uber-cool New Haven record label, Safety Meeting Records). This is O\'Death\'s first show back in Connecticut since regrouping earlier this year and we cannot be more excited for it!
