i havent really decided yet.

the battery sucks. its not lasting as long as other peoples\' are. maybe an hour and a half at the most when recording onto a microdrive. i probably should have taken it back for an exchange but i have been too lazy to test it at home. i need to test it at home because jordan was not happy with me plugging it in on stage the other night and i want to be able to run off the battery all the time because i wont have power to plug in at most venues. and usually the best place to set up is nowhere near a power source.

im not happy with the front end either. it calculates how much recording time is left on the card and sometimes it doesnt show the correct time. for instance, it might say it has an hour an a half left when it really has 3 hours left. if i start recording it would stop the recording at an hour and a half unless i keep powering the microtrack off and reformatting until it displays the correct amount of recording time left before recording. its a huge problem when i know the band is going on in a couple mins because that might not be enough time to get the microtrack ready.

its also swapping the left and right channels randomly and i keep forgetting to  tap one of the mics at the beginning of the recording so i know which channel is which when i get home to master the recording. i think the new firmware fixes this, but im not sure.

its doing a few other weird things, but i have been too lazy to test it out at home to figure out if all my problems are firmware related or the hardware. i should have done that during the first month i had it. do you know what guitar center\'s return policy is in case i need to exchange it because of the battery? i have the extended warranty at guitar center, but i dont want to have to send the thing out for repair or pay for labor. do you know if i would be able to do an exchange now if i bought it on 10/29?

the channels get swapped in the new firmware is what i have been reading on ts.com that is only when running spdif in.

The microdrive will use a bit more juice than CF.

RE: rtecording time

from what Have read on ts.com the recording time left is a calculation of the 2GB limit so it is showing you haow much time til u hit the 2GB limint. I read if you look at available space in another place it will accurately tell u how much space is availbale but when you hit record it only will show the amount of time til 2GB.

So it looks like you are seeing what other folks are. there are a few options for remote battery power. todd r on ts.com makes a "juicebox" which will take whatever input voltage and regulate it to the 5v needed for the MT.

There is about 40 + pages dedicated to the MT at taperssection.com if u ever feel the need to see what others are running in to

The new Tascam looks sicka nd only $900 and the marantz PMD 671 is also a nice solution but both are roughly 2x the price of the MT as you know. I am thinking of dumping my UA-5 and my VX pocket 440 and all my valance batteris and just getting an all in 1 likr the tascam. Just want to see what others have to say first

i know what youre talking about, but its 2 separate issues. supposedly they are going to do something to start up a new file at 2 GB, so they can be joined together seemlessly. if you look in the recording settings thats where it displays how much recording time is on the entire card and thats what is screwed up. it has nothing to do with the 2 GB limit.

i remember at richters last week i had a fresh card at the beginning of the show and it said i had something like 1hour 45mins for 24/44.1 left on the card. i knew that would be enough for the first set, so i just hit record and didnt mess with it. then for second set i checked my recording time left and it said i had almost 3 hours left on the same card that i just recorded on for over an hour.

this is an issue that everyone is having and maudio is aware of it. it may even have been fixed in the new firmware that i dont have yet.

thats great, but i only paid 300 for my microtrack, so if the firmware gets straightened out eventually i will be happier with that.

I will download it when i get home and burn both versions. I havent heard any MT sourced stuff yet so this should be well worth it. Thanks
