Stubhub.com hooks up dank ticket deals
« on: July 25, 2004, 12:08:09 am »
I haven\'t looked to see what this site is getting for Phish tickets, but they just smoked Ebay for 311/Roots/MMW, so if you\'re looking for Phish tickets...

Mad props to http://www.stubhub.com for a sweet ticket deal.  2 VIP tickets to 311/MMW/Roots (VIP parking, free food tent, dank seats) for $28 each after fees! Whoa! Face value for the lawn was $38! There were lots of VIP tix on Ebay for the last month, all going for $100-$125. EBay lawns were $70. Stubhub offered lawns for $40-$50 and VIPs for $75-$90. Good discounts from EBay already, then came the one fluke sale, 2 VIPs for $25 each. Wow. Definitely check out this site.

stubhub just hooked me up with 16th row for the dead at the meadows for 100 bucks.  with a face of 53, I couldn\'t resist the upgrade...

and their customer service is fantastic.

I hate scalpers, wheather its some sleasy guy in a lot or an \'agency\', which is just a bunch of sleasy guys who file taxes while scaping. I never have nor will I ever buy anything from a scapler, even if its below face value. Don\'t support these assholes!

yeah.. you can get sweet deals from scalpers right outside of shows too, if they\'re not sold out.. stubhub is falsely advertised as a place for people to get rid of their extra season tickets, and for fans to go to get tickets from other fans. bull. stubhub is just ebay for scalpers, plus radio ads with a gimmick. apparently it\'s working..

oh, and if you looked to see what they were getting for phish tickets, coventry\'s starting at $500/ticket, and the other shows are starting at $150/ticket. wow. these guys really hook it up!!!

Sounds like Phish tickets are a sour subject.  Looks like stubhub is not hot enough to hook up discounts on Phish tickets, and if you\'re against ever paying more than face value then it is usually not going to have what you want.  (Although I did just get two tickets for $100 below face value, which is not scalping.)  If you are someone who sometimes buys tickets (to non-Phish shows) on EBay or elsewhere, then you might as well check it out and maybe save yourself some money.

the thing about stubhub is that they aren\'t a ticket brokerage business.  they just broker the sale between people who go to the site to sell tix and the buyers who buy them....

my buddy picked up sweet cubbie tix on there as well.....

phish is a beast amongst itself.  this whole announce the retirement in the middle of sales of a summer tour was really wacky.....

and now i just found out that my coventry\'s are in ups limbo......
my whole week depends on a trade i am working...

I agree Steve.  There are flagrant scalper\'s sites like maximtickets.com and barrystickets.com and many more.  I don\'t buy from these sites either. There are certainly some scalpers on stubhub, but there are also a lot of people like you and me who just need a place to move a ticket that they can\'t use.  If you\'re gonna gonna slam stubhub and ebay as places to get tickets, then you\'re saying that no normal person can ever sell a ticket online.  If you don\'t want to pay above face value that\'s fine, don\'t, but where are regular people supposed to move tickets?

Jambase has a great site here . Their policy is face value or below only

There are those who are not willing to pay more than face.  And that is a personal preference.

But a ticket to a show is like a commodity.  It can be worth more or less than the face value depending on the event and demand for the ticket.

It sucks that scalpers buy up all the tickets which automatically cause more demand, but look at Coventry, I am sure not too many scalpers have their hands on Coventry tickets, but there are phans out there paying almost 5x face to get one.

Scalpers are scum, but I am still going to do what I can to get to the shows i want to get to.

And the only time I have ever paid more than face for a ticket was for Phish 2-28-03 (paid 100 and it was well worth it), Elton John this past April (paid 150 and it was a birthday present for my mom), and now these dead tickets which I got from stubhub for 100 each and they are 16th row......

so i dont know, but I do know that the first "above face" breakfast ticket has been sold already, so where does that put us in the scheme?  Oh and Wolfy, I am looking for a Breakfast 13 & 14 @ the 9 if you got any extra??????

Not so funny story to go along with this thread. I just got off the phone with my buddy who holds MY Coventry ticket. I told him I wasn\'t going and that I wanted to give my ticket to a close friend. I could see the $$ in his eyes (yes, even over the phone) as he told me..."If I can\'t find someone to go with me, I\'ll put it up on ebay and get $500+"  :slap::mad:

well if its your ticket, you should have gotten a hold of it asap.  but if you didnt pay for it already, you are kinda outta luck....but i got one to top you from the 1st night spac back in june....

i went up with a kid i worked with.  he was meeting a bunch of his friends there, they had his ticket, but we met in the lot, because we got a later start on the day from night 2 brooklyn.  anywho, we are in the lot hanging out and its getting closer and closer to showtime, and no sight of my buddy\'s boy and his ticket.  long story short, his buddy gave up on trying to find him and sold his ticket on the way in.   it was a friggin nightmare.  my boy hit the lot and traded for an extra (goods not cash).....

bottom line, the miracles are always out there, and if your friend sells your ticket on the way in, he deserves the beating of his life.....

Jambase ticket board is great for Phish, Dead, Cheese, and festival tickets, and nothing else.  Now that there\'s no Phish, there\'s virtually no use in the jambase board for people who don\'t go on Dead or SCI tour.  You can\'t even get a ticket to 90% of MMW or Bela Fleck shows on there, and if the band is not a jamband, forget about it.  Sports tickets too, no use on jambase.  I love their policy and the board is easy to use, but it\'s scope is so limited.  Stubhub is good beacause it is all-encompassing and you can just use it for the face-value-and-below offers if that\'s your thing.

so, just to clarify my point of view on a few things..

i\'m not against scalpers, or the idea of scalping... at all.. i used to be. i used to get pist off and disgusted at the thought of it. that was before i started going out of my way to get tickets. now i pay attention to on-sale dates, wake up in the middle of the night to go wait in line for tickets, etc, etc.. if i can\'t get tickets to a show, i don\'t go. i\'d never pay a scalper (above face value) for a ticket. that\'s just me. but that said, i\'m not against it at all, and i realize that seeing a certain show is worth more to some people than it is to others. to me, it\'s not worth more than the price of a ticket.

i know a lot of people in \'need\' of a coventry ticket. while normally, i\'d have no problem hooking up a friend with a ticket for face value (i\'ve done it countless times in the past), if i\'d decided to not go to coventry, that ticket would be up on ebay in a heartbeat, and i wouldn\'t feel bad about it in the least. does that make me a bad person? i dunno. i do know that coventry tickets were readily available for a long time before phish made \'the announcement\' (and for a pretty decent time after, considering). you can\'t take too long to decide on something, or your gonna miss out. i heard the announcement, i ordered my tickets. if i hadn\'t done that, i wouldn\'t be going, and i\'d deal with it..

so what am i getting at? i don\'t know really... :) to each his own is fair indeed i guess. ;)
