Relix sucks period. i get a free subscription somehow.  i just got the new issue, sick 6 pages of Brain Adams...:hscratch:sick. somehow they need to start making appearances in the "Scene and Heard" section. it seems like that section, issue after issue, covers trey, umphreys, spearhead, and fuckin ben harper. I don\'t know, i\'ve just been frustrated about relix\'s lack of B-fast for a long time now. maybe if enough people write to them we could get a little coverage for the boys. It\'d be sweet if they mentioned the puppethouse shows or something, afterall those shows will be epic confirmed.
if you want to write, here is the addy:

Relix was developed as a way to keep Grateful Dead fans connected. It is a magazine run by dead heads.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

How many other bands throw a party like The Fongoulish Freakout?

Great idea!  I am a major advocate of seeing more Breakfast in the press and should be working on a campaign to introduce the band to music columnists at the major newspapers.

I think that everyone these days takes advantage of the Halloween and NYE. Ity has become a customary ritual for many bands. Is it as good as other bands? Don\'t know, won\'t/haven\'t seen any other bands on Halloween.

DEAD Relix was developed as a way to keep Grateful Dead fans connected. It WAS a magazine run by dead heads.

Just a little correction.

Relix was a great place to find out info on GD and other bands. After Toni Brown editor in chief left the mag it went downhill fast. I still get it because I enjoy some of the writing in it and I\'m just used to reading it. The problem w/ Relix is it\'s bimonthly publication and the fact that all the news in there is old by the time it is published. The trend to push larger bands is def. a  $$ thing but I believe they do give coverage to new bands that other mags do not. The fact that The Bfast is not pushed by Relix is not surprising but a letter campaign could not hurt.
Worrying is like praying for something you don't want.

I thought at least I\'d check them out, but there\'s no way in hell I\'m slowing down my Bfast streak anytime soon. I mean, I\'m going back to school at Purdue in 3 weeks...I\'m going to be passing out CDs during freshman orientation week to set those kids straight.

I\'m in.

Oh, and some dude emailed me today, get this:

Quote
Hi Kate--
I hope you don\'t mind me e-mailing you.  My name is Jason, and I
manage the band U-Melt.  One of our fans who helps me out with
our street team forwarded me a link to the posts you made on PT
and I was hoping that you would give U-Melt a listen, as I am
sure you will really like them.  It was really nice to read how
much you LOVE to help spread the word about The Breakfast and I
was hoping, when/if you like U-Melt you could help us out as
well.  I am a really big fan of The Breakfast as well, and I am
actually good friends with their sound engineer Josh Dobson.  I
hope I don\'t sound like I am trying to take you away from the
time you spend helping The Breakfast, I was just hoping that you
would really dig U-Melt and maybe combine efforts :).
side note from Kate: this is what most would call "bullshit."

In case you have never heard of U-Melt, we are a similar band to
The Breakfast in that we are out of the north east (New York
City for us), and we are both guitar driven jam bands who take
incredible pride in every member\'s musicianship and pride in
every fans enjoyment of the show.  U-Melt has only been around
for less than 2 years but, I think you will agree, have formed
into one of the tightest and soaring bands in the scene.
Although we have not yet made it out to Indiana, we have made
incredible strides on the east coast and plan on working our way
to the mid west very soon, possible early next year.  And that
is why I decided to contact you, I hope you don\'t mind.  It
would be really great to get true music fans like yourself on
our side to help make our first trip out there a successful one,
and I am, without a doubt, extremely confident that once you and
others hear U-Melt\'s music, you will be instant fans.

Anyway, sorry about babbling on.  I just wanted to let you know
where I was coming from.  Once again, I hope you don\'t mind my
contacting you b/c of something you wrote on PT, I just really
liked what you said and think you\'ll really dig U-Melt and was
hoping we could get you on our team.  The link to U-Melt\'s
website is http://www.umelt.com.  Please go look around when you get a
chance.  There are some dowloadable MP3\'s off the music section
that I would love for you to take a listen to, and our sound
engineer is currently mixing a live show that we are considering
cutting down to one CD and using as a promotional handout (we
were originally going to release it as an album).  I would love
to send you a copy when it is ready in a week or two.

Thanks for listening and please let me know what you think about
the music on the site.  I really look forward to hearing back
from you.

Thanks,
Jason Greenberg

Not quite sure what to make of this. I mean, I\'m flattered that he\'s asking for my help, and I\'m sure U-Melt is good. But seriously. I\'m a college student, not a promo business. I\'ll check them out, but "not trying to take away from my Breakfast time"? All my spare time that I have is dedicated to them right now! Not sure I have time (or even want) to promote someone else.

Sounds to me like U-Melt has an active management team that listens to it\'s fanbase w/o relying on the band members to do so and realizes that music fans are music fans and help to promote the band he manages can be found anywhere.
If you feel inclined to help out great but I do not think he expects you to go ga ga over U-melt I mean he has HEARD The Bfast and probably KNOWS U-Melt is not as good. So take his email for what it seems to be which is just someone looking for fan support from one he sees as a music fan willing to go the xtra mile for a band they like and he hopes you like UMelt also.
