ummmm, i spend ALOT of time in the bridgeport (black rock) area, and have NEVER had a problem....actually, some of the best musicians/music fans i\'ve ever had the pleasure of knowing have quite an amazing scene there...actually, the BIGGEST i\'ve seen yet.  It\'s not only safe, but fun...full of talent and excitement....and an all around friendly and welcoming neighborhood.  that is all.  :)

because i have no self control....

i love the port....i also have the pleasure of driving around it all day....my office if right across from the field...that neighborhood is great....also on the other side by trumbull...very beautiful place to be....the middle not so much...i get the privledge of spending my time in these ghettos....good times evey day...i mean who can say that when they pull up to a stop sign with the windows down and the dead blaring...a man comes up to them and says...baby girl..what you doin in the hood...let me show you around...slim you know we are homies...but instead of rocking this board...take that info to the higher ups in hartford and advocate for a better place...if you work the higher ups...i promise to keep up my hard work and spread to the word to these people about how to make life better....if we all took that route...the world would spin in harmony....but we dont we bitch, spit numbers and facts and let it crumble around us....and people like me wake up every morning and think they do a world of good....whatevs....there are crappy neighborhoods all over the state...you can find just as much trouble when trying to park for BAR....it is what it is....

ha! i saw an opportunity to bust duanes balls and took it.

i\'m glad so many folks love bridgeport and feel so safe there.  i have a good friend that lives behind The Field, I often join her for runs/bike rides in that area.  But I\'ll tell you this... we always head toward Fairfield.  Ya know why, because I grew up  in Stratford... on the other side of Bridgeport.

I can agree that there are parts of bpt that I wouldn\'t mind living in.  But the majority of that city is bad news.

But instead of rocking this board...take that info to the higher ups in hartford and advocate for a better place

I\'m not complaining about the state of that city, just telling it how I see it.  I don\'t live or work there, I have no horse in that race.  But I\'m sure there are plenty of local advocates screaming at the deaf ears in both city and state governments about how bad things are there.

Bridgeport compares to some of the worst cities in the country, like DC:

Quote from: Wikipedia;220870
The racial makeup of the city was 45.02% White, 30.76% African American, 0.48% Native American, 3.25% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 14.81% from other races, and 5.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 31.88% of the population.

Attribution model is pointing in the direction of the melanin count

New Orleans
Camden, NJ
Detroit
St. Louis
Oakland
Flint, Mich.
Gary, Ind.
Birmingham, Ala.
Richmond, Calif.
North Charleston, SC

so.....all of these cities are in excess of 90% ghetto? i\'m just sayin.....

Resident of a top-10 most dangerous city right here!  In my case, I\'d stamp 35-50% of the geography as ghetto, with the rest being beautiful hills neighborhoods and more moderate transition neighborhoods/junior gangstaville.

Lilblondie, I hope you are packin\' the heat in Bport.

When your city is 78 sq. miles and 400k people, I could see some huge diversity in the quality of the neighborhoods.

Bridgeport is like 19 sq miles and 139K people.  Were talking 2 maybe 3 nice neighborhoods.

When you compare it to the surrounding towns of Fairfield, Trumbull and Stratford in which the majority if not all neighborhoods are great then consider that its got the highest per capita crime rate in the state, I don\'t think I\'m completely off my rocker to call it a shit hole.

jeez billy....have you been to the south end of your home town. like many parts of bridgeport, i wouldn\'t call it nice but i wouldn\'t call it a "ghetto". you made a valid point originally and then followed it up with a rash statement that\'s simply not true. bridgeport does suck!....so does the south end of stratford!....but you\'re the one who said  "....if not all neighborhoods (in stratford) are great." i called you out on the 90% statement and i still say i\'m right. nice job on the show promotion though. just for the record YOU CAN PARK YOUR CAR AND WALK IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE FIELD AND FEEL SAFER THAN YOU DO AT MANY BREAKFAST VENUES. end of story.

Town of stratford has about 8 distinct neighborhoods, 2 of which I would not want to live in. I therefore consider Stratford a pretty darn good place to live.

City of Bridgeport has about 20 distinct neighborhoods,  of which I would not want to live in 17 of them.  I therefore consider Bridgeport a crappy garbage filled dump.

It\'s all about positives outweighing the negatives.

Lets say I was a weathy person, sure I could get this amazing house in Bridgeport for $3.5M

(note:  this home is less then a quarter mile from The Field)

But would I really want to live in a town where the $52K/ year  I\'d be paying in taxes still wouldn\'t get me a decent public school to send my imaginary kids?!!

After reviewing the definition of Ghetto
Quote
Random House
1. a section of a city, esp. a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships.
2. (formerly, in most European countries) a section of a city in which all Jews were required to live.
3. a section predominantly inhabited by Jews.
4. any mode of living, working, etc., that results from stereotyping or biased treatment: job ghettos for women; ghettos for the elderly.

I\'d like to clarify my classification of Bridgeport as primarily a slum
Quote
Random House
1. Often, slums. a thickly populated, run-down, squalid part of a city, inhabited by poor people.
2. any squalid, run-down place to live.

not a ghetto.

not to mention, where could we possibly find an acceptable room anywhere in that slum? maybe across the line at the fairfield motor inn or just a quick run down to the stratford Hojo\'s would be better. i wouldn\'t want slim to be uncomfortable.
