I just gotta say that in the light of DMB, and it\'s community, I don\'t feel as if they should even be classified as a jam band. To me, and keep in mind the words "to me" imply a totally subjective statement, Jam bands are bands that hold a solid foundation for a song but allow the song to change and take totally improvised form on stage. Dave Matthews, DMB, D+T, all of them, don\'t do this. While they do take on some role of making the live act interesting and changing up a few solos, while keeping the sections the same time, they do not in anyway produce entirely improv material (with the exceptions of guests who generally tend to improvise).

the crazed and devoted fans, and mind you there is nothing wrong with devotion, need to come to some senses on what is what. I understand that some feel entirely happy with listening solely to 500,000,000 million versions of two step, crash, stmts -->astb--> something, and that someone can live entirely happy with just one band. However, don\'t let a one tracked musical taste deter you from what the fine tunning definitions of a jamband are. Understandably, DMB does "jam" from time to time, and, this current DM+F jam\'s also; however, they are far from the likes of real jams in terms of the current community\'s, as well as past relics, abilities and solid playing skills that we all call jams.

Please, dont take me as a DMB hater. I have been to 7 DMB related shows and I plan to attend my 8th tonight at MSG. I just don\'t see any link between them and what the major jam band communities see as the qualifications of a jamband other than their taping policies.

When I saw DMB open for Phish up in Davis back in \'94 I was puzzled by the combo. I did not know @ the time the bands were friends and it seemed odd to have a band like DMB open for Phish. DMB did jam a bit but it was not until I saw them open for GD in \'95 that I heard any real improv from them. DMB write some terrific songs but jamming them beyond what was written happens very rarely w/ DMB. Needless to say we have another great guitar player to listen to play acoustically. Go TIM !!!

Great Time Last Night....Thanks to the kindness of Cliff for letting the crew come into his fine establisment and enjoy an evening of drinking, laughing, and some of the finest live music out there....

Thanks to Chris F. for kicking me the TPalms acoustic show from last week, guaranteed to be the best present I will get this year.

Last night was amazing.  YEM>Fearless>YEM.....and a stunning Legend of a Mind were par for the course as far as song selection.  Christmas in \'Staven, another classic...  It was great to hear the Mokijam stuff as well.  Cocaine...Uh er...I mean EggNog...just plain fantastic....

I am looking forward to catching the setlist, and I must recognize Timmy for throwing down Billy Joel\'s Its Still Rock and Roll To Me.  I will always remember the look on Wah\'s face as Timmy and Durf threw down this "classic".....

great time last night!! had a nice dinner, finally got my girlfriend out to experience some of tim\'s guitar wizardry. hopefully she\'ll come with me to nye...i put my foot down and made it clear that i was not going to miss out!!!  cliff\'s a cool guy. we were finishing up dinner as tim was tuning up and he came by and said "i hope you don\'t mind the music..." i was like "shit, son! that\'s why we\'s here!!!" later i seen him singing "legend of a mind" to himself at the bar while tim was laying it down! highlights for me were the little segment of FATHER O\'BLIVION, still rock n roll to me, and christmas in \'staven.
