The infectious twang and pop hooks of Wilco\'s former efforts may be fading fast, but A Ghost Is Born is still a rewarding effort that demands repeated listening. The group\'s fifth album extends upon the experimentalism of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot with angular, blues-soaked guitar riffs ("At Least That\'s What You Said," "Hell Is Chrome"), a handful of sparse, yet catchy tunes (smack dab in the middle of the disc) that will surely keep college radio stations smiling, and a lengthy track that descends into mere static ("Less Than You Think"). Frontman Jeff T****y\'s songwriting continues to evolve: "Hummingbird" is a dreamy Randy Newman-styled love song; "The Late Greats" is a sly ode to the world of pop tacked onto the end of the album (as if using such a fun song on this understated disc was an afterthought). Meanwhile, producer extraordinaire Jim O\'Rourke manages to make the most complicated arrangements here sound minimalist and laid-back. All told, it\'s another great addition to the Wilco canon. --Jason Verlinde

On his solo debut, Life Begins Again, Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan drummer Jimmy Chamberlain takes a left turn from the cathartic rock of his former bands. Instead, he delves into a set of intricate songs better suited for the chill-out room than the mosh-pit. Even guest appearances by old boss Billy Corgan ("Loki Cat") and Catherine Wheel\'s iron-lunged singer Rob Dickinson ("Life Begins Again", "Love Is Real") hardly take away from the overall twilight mood of the disc, which draws prog-rock into the new millennium while giving a quick nod to Chamberlain\'s early metal years in the heady "Cranes of Prey." --Aidin Vaziri

NEW YORK POST
"If you didn\'t know, Jimmy Chamberlin, who spent a decade in the Smashing Pumpkins, is one of rock\'s greatest drummers."

NEW YORK PRESS
"Chamberlin’s muscular Prog drums with ambient jazzy guitars...He\'s the drummer that kicks ass all over Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream."

NEWHOUSE NEWS SYNDICATE
"Chamberlin makes his solo debut here, assembling a first-rate crew of musicians and guest vocalists for his "Complex."

BOSTON PHOENIX
"Life Begins Again - Chamberlin walking the line between nimble jazz and frantic prog-rock, stepping into the Pumpkins’ sweeping territory."

BOSTON GLOBE
"…if you\'re bored with mainstream product, give this a listen."

Marc Ribot y los Cubanos Postizos- The Prosthetic Cubans
The mastery and vision of the enduring Marc Ribot shine through on this release. Although there have been many attempts to produce authentic indigenous music of various cultures, most have fallen short; this album succeeds in the wake of failure. Ribot delves deep into Cuban rhythms, and indeed the album is a tribute to the Cuban master Arsenio Rodriguez. Here Ribot finds an authentic Cuban sound employing traditional instrumentation: upright bass, wood blocks, cherke and other percussion sounds. The performance is inspired, and the band consistently tears through Rodriguez\'s material, as well as some of their own. Ribot\'s guitar work nears perfection, and he proves himself to be the most soulful white alive. Songs like "Aqui Como Alla" and "Postizo" confirm these assertions. Although this album does not present the iconoclastic Ribot of The Book of Heads fame, it is an excellent album.

In calling its new album It\'s All Around You, Tortoise might be referring to the cultural universe from which it draws its expansive, one-of-a-kind sound. Try as you might to be succinct in describing the Chicago band\'s dreamy instrumentals, the only way to categorize them properly is to string together stylistic tags like so many Mardis Gras beads. As with a Quentin Tarantino movie, part of the pleasure is identifying and annotating the sources of the music as it unfolds, and folds back on itself. Studio-refined without being studio-slick, It\'s All Around You is awash in ambient pop and cool chamber jazz, hip-hop beats and more strident rhythmic feats, Spaghetti western touches, and the sound of ... opera? Just when it has you falling into its seductive spell, it will jolt you with a dose of rancorous drama. It\'s Tortoise\'s most accomplished and winning album--great fun and some kind of great art and who cares where that twain does or doesn\'t meet? --Lloyd Sachs

Product Description
From the deep and understated rhythms and tones on their 1996 landmark "Millions Now Living Will Never Die", to the bombastic rock of 2001\'s "Standards", Tortoise have always been ahead of their time. This release finds the band doing what they do best; building and rebuilding upon melodies and rhythms with their own remarkable touch. Lush, orchestrated tones, intricate melodies, and densely elaborate rhythms make this their most thoughtful record to date.

Side Trips, Vol. 1: Howard Wales & Jerry Garcia Live

>

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jbofw0

Editorial Review
artistdirect.com

Starting in the early 1970s, Jerry Garcia jammed informally in San Francisco nightclubs with various musicians when he wasn\'t busy with the Grateful Dead. One of his frequent partners was keyboardist Howard Wales, and the two issued an album of jazzy instrumentals, Hooteroll?, in 1971 (Garcia\'s first recording not under the aegis of the Dead). A mere 27 years later, Grateful Dead Records released this live album recorded around the same time. Wales and Garcia are joined by bassist John Kahn and drummer Bill Vitt (both of whom would work extensively in Garcia\'s non-Dead aggregations) for 65 minutes of free-form playing. Occasionally, especially when Garcia is playing, it sounds like the Dead in the middle of one of its extended improvisations, except, of course, that the music never returns to a familiar tune. --William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

It\'s cool posting boots, but a shame you\'re putting Dave in the hotseat by posting pirated albums.  Put down the pipe, get a job, buy the actual album, show you care instead of being a selfish ass hole.
