Ride your bike to work week, may 12th-16th
« on: May 03, 2008, 10:49:19 am »
two weeks out. Personally, I\'m going to try and do it every day regardless of the weather or the fact that I\'ll be leaving at 3:15am to make it in on time. Even if you don\'t bike, try walking somewhere or carpooling. Anything to cut down on the amount you\'re in your car by yourself. If for nothing else, think of all the money you\'ll save because you wont be buying so much gas at (last time for me, $3.74 a gallon)

be careful at that hour!
sheesh that\'s early...i go to bed at that time some days!!
:)

my goal is just to get my bike tuned up since it\'s been sitting for years...gotta start small and work my way up.

let me know what you\'re looking to do with it and what you\'re thinking of getting and your price range, I\'ll help you pick something out.

oh, and I have a reflective jacket I throw on at night, should be ok. I\'ve only been hit by cars while running, never on a bike.

Do you have lights on your bike?  I imagine you ride on some narrow country roads.

nah, lights weigh too much and I\'m on pretty well lit roads.

Actually, my road bike doesn\'t have reflectors either; more wasted weight. I should ride my hybrid to work, it\'s probably safer.

Not happening for me. I only have a mountain bike, and it is in need of some serious repair. Plus, I\'m not up for biking all of my riding gear, and things like saddle pads etc etc, to work when it is normally a half hour drive on 50 mph roads.

It\'s a good thought though. When work was closer I used to bike all of the time.

I live a mile from a commuter rail station.
I work a mile from a commuter rail station.

I have been saying for the last 2 years that I will buy two bike <$50 each, and bike->train->bike.

maybe the gas prices will finally be the motivation i need

you could get one of those backpack bikes. They fold up so you can just carry it like a rolling piece of luggage on the train/into work. The wheels are smaller so you wont go as fast but it\'s better than having it stolen and being s.o.l. when you get off the train.
