From Relix.com:
Wilson Pickett: 1941-2006
Iconic soul artist Wilson Pickett died yesterday of a heart attack. Pickett, who rose to fame by way of hits such as "In the Midnight Hour" and "Mustang Sally," was 64. Born in Prattville, AL, Pickett clocked time in the early 1960s R&B group the Falcons, earning a nod from the Rolling Stones who covered his "If You Need Me" on its album 12x5. In 1965, Pickett broke off as a solo artist, recording early tracks like "In the Midnight Hour" at Memphis\' famed Stax studio. After helping define the "Stax Sound," Pickett moved on, scoring a number-six hit with "Land of 1000 Dances." In the rock realm, Pickett intersected with a number of notable names: The Grateful Dead covered the singer\'s "In the Midnight Hour" frequently in the Pig Pen era, while Duane Allman played guitar on his cover of the Beatles\' "Hey Jude." In the late 1970s, Pickett established himself as an in-demand performer and toured frequently throughout the \'80s and \'90s. In the studio, however, Pickett remained quiet in his later years, sparsely recording in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1999, Pickett emerged from retirement, releasing It\'s Harder Now in 1999.

Another legend gone. Putting on a ripping In the Midnight Hour covered by GD in tribute.

My father called me yesterday to tell me this news. He accompanied it by singing the "hits".

RIP
