So what is the BEST Timmy Tour Venue?
« on: August 02, 2006, 03:37:25 pm »
There have been claims and arguments in other threads, but I\'d like to try to gain a consensus. What is the best Timmy Venue?
We have 7 now by my count: Richter\'s, BAR, SideBar, Katonah, Sully\'s, CJ Sparrow\'s, and Bridgeport. (am I forgetting anywhere?) I am not concerned with past venues, or places we think he should play, I\'m speaking of the present here.

I have attended 3 of these venues(all in New Haven, I am very lazy)  I will give my pro\'s and con\'s for each, open for agreement or dispute.  If the spirit moves our adminstrators, perhaps a poll is order.  Looking forward to your thoughts, here are mine.

Venue: Richter\'s
Pro\'s:  Half Yards, Fine beer selection, Trish the Dish, Typically decent crowd  there specifically for Timmy Tour, Consistent appearances.
Con\'s: Kitchen closes EARLY, Yalies, Parking,
Verdict The standard all others are measured by.  No food hurts though.

Venue: BAR
Pro\'s: Pizza, Unique Brews, Overall size
Con\'s: Often on Monday\'s, High % of people there could care less about the show (esp. on Friday shows), No waitstaff serving at your seat, Tables up fron make requests less accessible.
Verdict: Would be a tougher contender if not on Monday.

Venue: SideBar
Pro\'s: FOOD (the Ahi Tuna was incredible), Thursday night means only sucking it up for one day at work.
Con\'s: That damn wall between Tim and the tables, Stark, bright decor makes me feel like the whole place is a bathroom, Tim stuck awkwardly in the corner, Inconsistent booking.
Verdict: I should get a pre game meal there before going to Richters.
A man who has seen the things I have seen,
experienced the loss and pain I have experienced,
I transcend race, hombre.

personally though I\'ve never been to sidebar, and BAR is just not up to snuff as far as musical rediculousness goes, great pie though.

Personally it\'s gotta be Richters

sullys was cool because there were a bunch of people dancing. not standing with a beer and nodding their heads, but actually dancing. this made the whole scene more like a real show and less like an excuse to go to the bar. side bar is cool but i get claustrophobic in there. i liek being able to stand outside and rage at BAR during the summer, but the huge tables are awkward. i gotta go with Richter\'s because of high .info presence, especially since i can meander over to BAR for a couple slices during setbreak.

hhGreat thread Bri.....

This is tough to categorize, but I will give it my best shot......please note the mumbo jumbo style of my post.  I am trying to do a hundred things since getting home from work in order to get out to Richters tonight.....

Lets start with the Least Valuable Player: BAR.
- BAR sucks for a Solo Timmy show for so many reasons, here are a couple.  First off, and Tim will testify to this one, that more often than not, the "non-Timmy-Tourers", are lethargic and could give two shits if Jimi Hendrix himself was reincarnated and playing in the corner.  This drastically effects Tim\'s playing.  Also, the setup is rediculously stupid for a live music event.  Maybe if it was just a musician playing mood music that little corner would be nice, but Timmy Tour is all about crowd participation and getting the fuck down, a difficult thing to do at BAR.  So poop on BAR as far as a Timmy Tour venue goes

Next we have the highly disputed "Pound For Pound Best Timmy Tour Venue To Date" - Sidebar
- Sidebar has good food, a great drink selection, and 2 potential locations where Tim might be setting up and playing.  The front where the door is, and the back room where the bathrooms are.  The front is good, because you can be outside and still feel the show.  However, it is very cramped and tough to really get into the show.  Also, there has never in TT history, been a show at a bar that has had fire juggling and a latenight set where Tim played well after the bar was closed.

Now we will come to the original Timmy Tour venue - 232 Wooster St.
This is arguably the best venue to some, and it will always hold a special place in my heart as 232 is where this all started and it was always on Wednesday nights.  Thus creating Timmy Tour and leading way to the Black Thursday.  The Wednesday nights at 232 are extremely special and there were many a great musical moment....

So with all that being said, I would have to say that RICHTERS is the all around best Timmy Tour venue going. (Yeah I have kind of changed my tune from Sidebar).
- First off, there by the grace of God, stands Trish the Dish.
Secondly Richters is the oldest bar in New Haven and has never had (and probably never will) host live music of any kind.  When you go to a Timmy show at Richters you are part of New Haven history.
Also, Halfyards of beers.
And, the only TT location where you are 99% guaranteed to get a Freddiewah sighting
Another reason is that Richters shows are on Wednesday nights. The ONLY official night of Timmy Tour.
Yet another reason would be the fact that (and this is probably why I have to reneg and say Richters is the best), Tim only busts the Alesis synth out at Richters shows....

The other venues. Porters, Sullys, TKA do not meet the minimum shows required to qualify for consideration in my opinion.

Not sure what is gonna transpire. Regardless, we ain\'t gonna forget the gravy.

i got ya hooked on it, didn\'t i?

bar pizza plus timmy tour is a classy combo.

you forgot Martini\'s.   some great shows took place there in Spring-Summer \'05.  Porter\'s was great just to see Timmy rage a nasty GBFBITS while the sun set above.

Good call Igzy.....However I believe that Martinis falls under the "fails to meet minimum show requirements"....However there were some great nights there.

I, for one, would like to forget that place though since it was because leaving that place that we almost lost one of our best friends.....
