in your opinion does this hurt the bands image or just a personal preference?

hurts the bands image. especially when dealing in the jamband scene, the main goal is to further yourself as much as you can from your musical peers, become as individualistic musically as you can, hence building up your image.

I have some similiar feelings about this too. Last night was an exception because it was played with a special guest. I feel that if you are trying to create an individual image, you need to explore your songs more, even if that means extended them in time length and putting fewer songs in the set. But, def. the Dead was 2 generations ago, in jamband terms(i.e. what I mean is, GD era, Phish era, ???era). They can definately play the tunes well, but I don\'t think it "attracts" a crowd, maybe older people who have a connection to the dead(I do not, never saw them). Personally, I think 1 cover a night is enough. or 2 well chosen ones. It wasn\'t for a couple of years before I started to notice how many songs phish covered.

I was attracted to them because of the Zappa covers.  They need to take advantage of GOOD covers, not songs from kids movies (ie Born to be Wild)...

not saying that it wasn\'t. really worked the crowd.

i am just saying, that i could use fewer covers in a show. unless perfect chosen and executed in a set, i.e. last night...

No, but Born to be Wild, not to mention countless of other shitty kid movies.  I\'m searching for all the movies it was in, but its quite the chore..
