Zappa Vs. Dead (The Battle is back!)

As much as I respect Frank Zappa as an artist and prolific recording artist The Grateful Dead changed my life forever.

Musically, Spiritually, and consciously they set me on a life\'s journey that continues to this day.  It has made me a better person for it IMHO

zappa\'s music was so complex he got bored of it, GD went with their flows.

My vote goes for Zappa.
Why?  Cause when Jerry was shootin\' up Frank was writing a new tune.  Hands down one of the hardest working musicians of the last 100 years.

I feel the same way about Zappa, he seriously did change my life forever on more than one occasion.

If not for Jer and the music of the Dead, I would still be searching for a lot more.  That band has led me to some amazing people and journeys.......Thanks to Tim and Adrian I have been exposed to so much amazing music by Frank Zappa.......I love them both but if I had to pick one, I would undoubtedly choose the music of the Grateful Dead.

Now did Zappa ever play with the Dead or Jer ever play with Frank Zappa?

As for the Dead and Zappa playing together, this was the closest I ever got to see.  Once saw the JGB open up for Zappa at the U.I.C. Pavillion in Chicago (8/18/84).  I remember JGB was so loud my ears rang for days and Zappa\'s encore, a little ditty called "Ride My Face to Chicago".  But, alas, they did not play together.

I don\'t think so... although they have both played at some of the same festies (like Dec 1968\'s Gulf Stream Race Park).  One more random fact:  The Persuasions have had tribute albums for both GD & Zappa.
