A/V Club Help Needed
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:23:31 am »
Was wondering if any members of our fine Audio/Visual team can assist me with finding some inexpensive DVD editing and authoring programs.

My business partner and I are in the need of editing and authoring software. We currently do not have the means to purchase Apple\'s Final Cut studio yet. It is one our list to purchase once we begin to make some money.

Basically, by law, we need to have a couple screens at the beginning of the DVD that can not be forwarded through. These would be the legal disclosure screens.

Email or write in this thread. There could also be some side work available as we build this company.

Is what I am asking for making sense?

dont think final cut will help you with dvd authoring. it could probably make a dvd that you would at least be able to watch, but i dont think it can author one that will do what you are trying to do. you would probably  need dvd studio pro along with final cut.

i dont really know what else is out there for mac. ive used adobe encore for pc back when it first came out, but didnt like it very much. they are now up to version 4.0 so its probably better. adobe premiere for editing and encore for dvd authoring might be cheaper than final cut pro/dvd studio pro.

they are arent as good vegas pro and dvd architect, but those are not available for mac.

We have PC\'s also available to work on.

Every option is in the open.

Fitzy, I\'ll probably be talking to you personally in the next few days about this.

Thanks

Educate me broseph, what is what.cd? Is it somewhat like Oink?

In the long run, we are going to need commercial copies of whatever we choose to work with. We currently need just to get something working to get this off the ground.

Thanks for the insight, ya\'ll.

Looks like we will be purchasing a Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio around August 15.

Has anyone used or does anyone use Final Cut Studio? May need to get some pointers.

Might even be able to get some paid work for you as well.

Going to be an easy $5,000 investment. Mac Pro, Final Cut Studio, Keyboard Cover and Bamboo Pen Tablet.

sounds like the biggest waste of money ever to me. like the time homer bought a computer and the guy at the store told him he needed the top of the line one for checking email.

get a new pc with at least 4GB of ram, a video card supporting dual monitors, at least 2 terabyte hard drive for just video, and sony vegas/dvd architect. probably would cost half of that.

pens are garbage. we have them at work and I never use them. a lot of people like the tablet and pen but if you\'re already used to using a mouse and keyboard, then why waste money to learn something new. it\'s not like you\'re going to be drawing anything, you\'re doing video not graphic art. save your money and just get a good mouse.

I use Final Cut every day.  I\'d love paid work, but we are entering election season right now and  I am back-logged and bombarded already...

but I am always available to give pointers and to give a free tutorial.  I give training sessions out, i have to for the DPUC.   its free.  you just need to come in and pretend you live in east haven.....  the way i look at final cut pro is....a monkey could use it.  Really, that\'s why i can ;)    I teach middle school kids in this program, and they picked up on it in a week.  If you are savvy with computers, you will get it.   I think this was mentioned earlier, you will need DVD Studio Pro for your Mac Pro also, if you haven\'t already gotten that or a program like it.

Definitely didn\'t need the pen tho.    What did you mean by keyboard cover?  Did you mean the Final Cut Pro cheat keyboard??   Cause thats a must for when you are first starting.  It tells you what every key does (i.e. mark ins, outs, etc.)

We have the cheat cover for the keyboard. I\'m sure we will definitely have a few questions on FC but we\'ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
