Sorry if this has been covered before, but what\'s the best way to play FLAC files on a Mac? I\'m new to the Mac world and am still learning. Thanks!

i cannot figure out betree stuff. archive works great (usually). still waiting for another hanging with fitz session where he could possibly **** my mac. asked a couple months ago but couldnt get many answers. good luck, brah !

You cannot play flac files on a Mac - you have to convert them to either .aiff or .wav files first. The best program to convert is \'xAct\'.

that is not true. well xACT is the best conversion tool, that is true. But macs can play flacs. In fact they are quite good at it. Cog as previously mentioned is a good choice for a player that can play virtually any compression format. So Is Play. Play is by the same people that do cog but it is a bit bigger, with more robust user interface and can handle compressed 24 bit files! Yummy. Itunes now also has a flac plug-in if you want to keep it simple and use the provided software.

google is your friend, don\'t be afraid to use it!

Thanks everyone for your help. I have been looking on Google, but thought I\'d check here as well incase someone knows of a way that perhaps I didn\'t find on my own.

I found this, which seems to be a pretty simple way of playing them in iTunes. I\'m assuming that if they play in iTunes that it\'s possible to burn them to a cd as well. I\'ll have to try this tonight when I get home from work.

thanks for the heads up about Play and Fluke

iTunes 8 should be released today so I am going to wait before I try Fluke

being able to play files in iTunes does not necessarily mean they will be able to burn to an audio cd if that is what you are aiming for

Yeah, I tried to burn the last Sully\'s show to cd. Didn\'t work. ITunes will play the flacs (after I installed Fluke) but when trying to burn a cd, iTunes says something like "There are no files in the selected playlist".

Plus, playback was not perfect. The "Jam" file kept crashing iTunes, and the beginning of Synergy was stuttering for a bit. My solution is to continue using my Windows computer for all my Flac needs. JetAudio for Windows has built-in support for Flac files and has flawless playback and burning capabilities.

you should really try Cog or Play before resorting to the windoze. I mean Macs were made for tunes. I cut my teeth in professional recording studios and I promise you, there is nothing your PC can do with an audio file that the mac can\'t do better, faster, more efficiently and way sexier.

are you are on a windows machine? I have heard a few complaints from people on XP and Vista but nothing consistent. It mostly seems to be folks inventing new ways to confuse their system.

I am on a mac and all I use iTunes for is listening to music and managing my iPod shuffle, any disks that I burn I do in Toast unless they are drm protected files. for those files I burn a cd and then import the songs back into iTunes as unprotected files. I listen to flacs with Cog and I convert them with xAct for adding to my shuffle. All of these programs are free except toast and I have not upgraded that since version 6 (I think they are on version 8 now).

Have any of you used Logic Pro? I have a few friends who own it - they make some pretty ser tracks on there.
