if you deleted the files by accident, there are recovery programs that can recover data. don\'t write on the drive as you will not be able to recover that data in those areas.

is the drive making funny noises? clicking? the dive might be failing. I hear putting the drive is the freezer, then plugging it in, can make an unreadable drive start working? copy files to another dive asap.

is the dive being recognized by the computer?
plug the dive into another  computer and see if you can recover or see the drove/files.

reboot, try an different usb port. check connections again.

when you plug the drive into the computer, does the computer ask you to reformat?  your drive may be corrupted and has lost the partition.  there are recovery programs that can fix partitions on the drive.

good luck

I think my drive is  corrupted, because my computer does not even  recognized my drive on my computer. So I tryed to refomat and start all over so i could at least use the drive but when i tryed to do that it tells me please connect WD smartware to continue; then click rescan. I check all of the usb plugs and also change them and still the same thing happend. Do you think maybe the drive is junk and i should take it back?

i have a similar drive with WD smartware. you are going to some kind of partition manager

my drive had 2 partitions. the WD smartware partition was a virtual cd rom drive with WD software. the other was the storage space on the hard drive. i deleted both partitions and reformatted the drive as one big partition.

all the extra stuff they put in that drive was worthless. if you cant figure out how to fix it i would recommend returning it and getting an internal western digtal hard drive and a cheap hard drive enclosure to turn it into an external if you can do that for the same price or cheaper.
