What is the best?
I just got a new comp/first DVD burner.
All the main stream programs I have tried say some bull about copy protection when I try to rip.
All the non-mainstream programs looks sketchy/clown shoes.
who knows the name of a good one?
dvd decrypter to copy dvd to hard drive
dvd shrink to get dual layer down to size for a single layer dvd-r
nero to burn to disc
and dvdflick is a good one to use if you have random video files of different formats and resolutions on your hard drive that you want to burn onto a dvd that will play in a dvd player.
thanks fitz. can u explain dvd shrink more. is this something u do everytime?

You only need to worry about it if you are trying to fit a movie or whatever on a single sided DVD that was ripped from a dual layer
basically trying to make 9GB fit on 4.5 (or so)
If you have a dual layer DVD burner and dual layer DVD\'s then you do not need to deal with it. BUT if you don\'t have a dual layer DVD burner OR you only have single layer DVD\'s and want to burn something then you will need to deal with DVDShrink
I am not familiar with DVD shrink specifically but if it is like the others you can usually remove all of the different languages, subtitles, extra features etc etc. This will reduce the file size to be burned. If it still is too big then these programs will generally allow you to choose a compression scheme for the movie itself which will dramtically reduce the filesize (it also will reduce the quality of the original. Think MP3)
dvd decrypter and dvd shrink work together when both installed. dvd shrink will decrypt the dvd.
you can choose to shrink the dvd down to a dvd5 or not (it lowers the quality slightly). and u can uncheck the foreign languages on the dvd so it does not copy them. if the dvd needs to be shrunk to fit on a dvd5 and you dont copy the foreign languages you will end up with higher quality. if the dvd also has a stereo and surround sound options u can also choose just one or the other to keep if you want to do that.
you can also remove things like special features in dvd shrink to make it fit on a dvd and you may not have to shrink it at all to get it to fit on a dvd5.
works good for movies, but dont do it for live music dvds you are going to trade
ok so how about palying the ripped files as a DVD on computer without burning it? I am over the whole burning thing.
