maybe i am alone on this...but is anyone else totally lost with this whole iPod craze? i am not technologically handicapped, but this stuff is starting to get way over my head. when i\'m on a plane i listen to a DISCMAN-does anyone remember those?? i will admit that i\'m years past the walkman (bet davepeck is cringing at the sight of that word
I take that back, I think you can fit 1/2 hour worth of movie clips, maybe a little more.
nope, there\'s no restrictions (other than file type).. full movies can be done. over at iLounge, some users have been ripping their DVDs to a format compatible with the new video iPods and here are the final file sizes:
8 Mile - 344 MB - 384 kbps
Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story - 202 MB - 256 kbps
Finding Nemo - 378 MB - 384 kbps
not bad. though i really couldn\'t see watching video on one of these. just too small.. but i\'ve had my eye on a 60gb ipod for a while (i still have my 1st gen 10gb ipod), and the fact that it\'s now in black might be just what i needed to make me pick one up.
I heard this morning that Sony and a few other record companies are starting to release mucic CD\'s that cannot be downloaded to iPods.
yup. it\'s a great way to
**** the consumer who legally paid for your product. personally, i\'ll never buy a cd with that kind of copy protection on it. i\'m not paying for a crippled product.

I have a 3rd gen 10g, and it serves me just fine.
Although if someone wanted to buy me a 60g video iPod, I wouldn\'t turn it down...
I guess you can get around the encryption by downloading via Windows Media, then coverting it to the apple program. But why are they making you jump through hoops. I\'m sick of hearing the record industry bitchin\' about their dwindling profits... they\'re doing it to themselves.
Oh and Mama... the iPod thing. It\'s all personal preference. I just think it\'s awesome that I can hold 10\'s of thousands of songs in the palm of my hand. Literally take hundreds of CD\'s w/ me whereever I may roam.
Today, converting tons of old Pearl Jam bootlets over. I\'m listening to a show from Switzerland \'92 right now that I haven\'t listened to in 10 years.

exactly. in some instances, it\'s as easy as holding down the shift key when you put the disc in your computer, but the point is, i shouldn\'t have to do that at all.

i\'m thinking we need to get a good group of .inforumers together for some shows when PJ tours next year.

Yeah first time Ihave ever felt old was when I was showing off my new used ipod at work to the junior instructors and i said how much better it was than my discman and they all laughed at me. I was also really proud of my "new" headphones (the ones that has the thing that goes behind your head instead of over the top) and apparently those have been around for years... they all had a good time making me feel dumb.
**** on the go=ser
It would be a 15 year dream come true.
it might get a bit hairy, come to think of it..
"sticky" would be the word that comes to mind when i think about

I haven\'t even embraced the discman yet, not to mention an Ipod. I don\'t think I need any of this stuff and kind of pride myself in being outside the loop of pop culture. I didn\'t need a pager 12 years ago and will also pass on an Ipod. I\'ll probably miss the next few "must haves" of the next decade as well.
The only topic I\'d like to master is converting FLAC to MP3, though I don\'t have the patience to read the (most likely) basic instructions.
I believe for flac>mp3, you first have to convert flac>wav. But...I\'m only two steps ahead of you

I\'m still in 1987. Better go lace up my Vision Street Wear.
