This is from this thread in June 2003 (first-round action):

#1 Modern def. #16 BAR 5-4
#9 Sally\'s def. #8 Brazzi\'s 9-0

there you have it. sally\'s was a landslide, while the other matchup was extremely close. in fact, BAR actually took 2 out of the 3 subcategories (dough, sauce, cheese), but Modern squeezed out the overall victory.

Modern went on to lose to Sally\'s, which eventually lost a 6-5 decision to Pepe\'s in the final. Both the Modern-BAR and the Sally\'s-Pepe\'s matches were controversial due to oven/heating/burning/cooling issues. It was problems like these that led to the demise of the tournament and the subsequent restoring of lives for all participants.

The seeds and the bracket were randomly chosen by lottery at setbreak of the 2003 family jam.

I could not attend due to covering the North Haven baseball team\'s state championship game that was rained out from two nights before.

Now THAT\'S the in-depth analysis I\'m talking about!  What a tough draw for BAR.  We really should do this again with an updated field, as well as a pie with one veggie topping and a pie with one meat topping from each competitor.

Hats off to Sally\'s Apizza, which today celebrates its 70th year of producing and serving the best pizza that ever graced one\'s palate.

Ironically, 70 years is also the amount of time it usually takes to get served (well, 80 years if you\'re Wolfman), but I\'ve heard about a recent occasion in which reservations were made, the pizza was served prompty, and some New Yorkers from our lovely website (aka: PennyRedstar and fizzlefest) were reportedly blown away, particularly by the plain with garlic.

Yay New Haven pizza!

Oddly Paul, today Carini\'s Pizza also celebrates its anniversary. Of making people spit up blood!

 yea, yea, yea carinis sucks, blablabla.

Carinis is hit or miss the last few years. I still get it periodically and sometimes it\'s just like i remember it as a kid, fantastic. Other times however, :pukedon:

I\'d much rather just drive to new haven and get something decent though than hit anything up here these days though.

Speaking of pizza, go to Jimmy\'s in Milford on New Haven Ave.   The Speciality Pizza "Danielle" will blow you away.  Order it as toxic, if you are brave.  And maybe if you are lucky, Danielle will actually be your waitress.
