just wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to install an ipod hookup in my car so i can listen to my ipod in the car without using one of those horrible itrip things where you have to mess with radio frequencies

would be cheaper though since the itrip crap is like 80-100 bux. seriously though you should be able to get hooked up well for 2-4 hundge. there are lots of good decks made with i-pod inputs in that range. i would recommend not skimping though. cheap car stereo stuff tends to malfunction pretty quickly in my experience.

you can also wire an input cable to your existing deck and add a toggle switch yourself if your feeling bold.

i was looking into this recently because i was getting sick of having a shitty signal when driving long distance.

depending on what kind of car you have, you can find pretty cheap aftermarket parts/stereos. i got an estimate to get an \'04 honda stereo for like $200 (i have a friend who will install the stereo for me so i don\'t have to pay for the labor). then i realized i am ditching my car for the summer so i\'m putting it off for now.

you could go the walmart route and get like an $100 stereo but it will probably bite the dust sooner than if you spend some more cash.

I have no problem with mine. I can set it to any radio station signal on the dial, so if I get a bad signal from a new station coming in on a long ride, just go through the dial until I hear nothing but static, switch to that channel. :thumbsup:

The iTrip I just bought has a scan feature. It takes a second and 99% of the time finds a perfect station.

I recently bought a Sony head unit for about $135 got it installed free (some promo they were doing) and it is great!!

I used to use an iTrip and got sick of switching stations on long drives, the sound quality is sooo much better, I just have an input wire running off the back of the unit and into my glove compartment, I keep the Ipod in the glove and just use the controls on the radio to change it!!

Best investment I have made in a long time!!

Some stereo models already come with toggle switches in the cd player and all you need to do is hook up the harness to interface your stereo with your ipod. Depending on the model and year of your car/car stereo, you may buy a harness from ebay or circuit city for like $60-$100. One harness may be different from another so make sure you buy the proper harness for your car stereo. If you or someone you know knows how to intall a car stereo, then it should be simple to intall the harness into your car stereo. Make sure you follow directions to get the proper settings!! I did this for my Toyota Corolla \'05 last summer. Bought a universal harness from Circuit City for $99 and took me about an hour or so to hook it up properly. I bought a universal harness in case I get another car in the future. So to answer your question: $60-$100 bucks for the harness/adapter and $50-$?? for labor. This is just my assumption.

i prefer thru the cassette adaptor. you just have to set the volume of the mp3 player at the right level. when my nomad jukebox was working you could set the level from 0-30. around 20 was a good level thru the cassette adaptor. if it was a reeally good cassette adaptor i could set the level of the mp3 player at 22. sounded way better doing it that way than after i got a cd player installed in that car.

forget that. if you have a tape deck buy the tape adaptor and spend your money on weed and alcohol.

Paul, same with me. No problems. Even last summer all the way up in the adirondack mountains.... maybe it depends on the brand. i don\'t have itrip. i have something else called Road Trip (some generic brand that Target sells).
