True Blood is an American television drama series created by Alan Ball, based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris. The show is broadcast on HBO and premiered on September 7. The show has been renewed for a second season.
True Blood details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a diner, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

Well, as someone who idolizes Alan Ball\'s creative pursuits, yet absolutely loathes the vampire genre, I wasn\'t sure how to approach this series. So we\'re four episodes in and I think it\'s safe to say that although I\'m not absolutely sold on the show, I am definitely intrigued by the initial character development and find myself highly interested to find out what will happen next.
I like how within the context of the show that vampires are a minority group just like many others in the United States and are in the public eye for the first time as many, including the primary male character, Bill Compton, have decided to "come out of the coffin" and are now "mainstreaming" it by living out in the open with humans. Of course, there are many other vampires who are clinging to their roots and are not taking their approach. The conflict between Bill and many of these vampires is something else that I particularly like.
Definitely worth a viewing.
I think the plot development is a little slow.
havent gotten to watch the fourth episode yet. liking the show so far though. great concept.
i\'d love to stick it to anna paquin. that alone gives me enough reason to watch the show.
diehard 6ft under fan. love campy vamp movies. hate the show. disappointed in alan ball.
i\'ve been hooked since day one....and now that i am stuck in the land of sickness and no breakfast, it seems that true blood and one tree hill are the ONLY things i get excited about:) True Blood = Genius in my book .... I also think the cast chosen for this production is outstanding. Well done Alan
I like it well enough so far. But as its in the same slot as Dexter it\'s second on my list, thank god for DVR.
Anna Paquin is looking particularly hot, in her southern white trashy garb.
I, like Chris, am not totally sold on the whole thing yet, but I\'m gonna keep watching till something makes me do otherwise. It seems like an odd complaint, but I feel like they use the word "vampire" too much. I\'m watching and buying the whole thing, then they say "vampire" practically every other word and it removes me from the situation. It reminds me how ridiculous the whole concept is. I also agree with Tyzak that the plot development is a little slow, but it seems to be picking up some what int he last couple episodes.
Alan Ball has some serious obsession with death.
Is this going to a be long-running show?
Or another 1-season wonder?

I saw one episode, thought it was kinda weird, but maybe it\'s because I didn\'t watch the first few. What is that True blood
**** they drink? Does it repel them from vampires or something?

It\'s synthetic blood that gives vampires what they need w/o having to kill humans.

That just makes you "high" or something.
More specifically, it makes your senses somewhat vampric for a time.
Though it is not mentioned alot, Sookie, I think, has some of this ability after drinking Bill\'s blood for healing.
I just watched the first two episodes. I really like the underlying themes of racism and homophobia in America symbolized by the vampires. It\'s interesting and I feel myself getting hooked just because I have to know what happens next. I too cannot stand the whole vampire-genre in general, and I\'m not sold either that this is a great show yet. But I\'ll keep watching. Tara and Lafayette are great characters. I love the constant sexual intensity and suspense too. Some of the dialogue is really cheesy. Whatever, we\'ll see. So far it has kept me interested, that is all.
